I can relate to the gun going off by it's self, the one I got last year was about 60# small doe, it was smaller than my dog. But it shure tasted good.
an unloaded wepon is equal to the same mass and volume as a rock.

I shot a 62lb doe once

Well Timmy, that is an average sized doe down in south Jawja!  Ain't none of 'em does as big as my new puppy dog (80+ pounds now).  I shot the biggest buck we've taken off the farm I hunt a few years ago and he dressed out at an even 125 lbs.  You can bet you'll never hear me denegrating anyone about the size of the deer he shot!

Matter of fact, I hope I'll be able to post a few pics of deer taken this year with the handi used laying alongside each one for size reference.   ;D

Thanks for posting pictures. It's interesting to note the size difference in various parts of the country.
Being old school, I actually prefer a tender doe to an old buck in rut.
Don't let negative remarks discourage you. I can almost taste that venison now. mmmmm.

I need to stop shooting these little 190 pound 10 point velvet bucks that we have here in S.C.  ;D

Whoa!  A 190 lb. buck is a VERY respectable deer in ANY part of the country.  I'd like to see the pic as well.  As for me, I hunt primarily for palatable fare.  It's not that I wouldn't shoot a larger, older buck (I would), but I'd rather shoot a table friendly critter of either gender.  When given the option, I gladly shoot does over bucks.  I'd also rather not shoot "grandma doe".  (Ask me how I know this)  :-\.

CW, I wish I could! HAHA, the distance is a little too far for some steaks though! I appreciate the offer!   :)
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."

Hey guys, I sympathize with ya.....My wife and son accuse me of getting the little ones too. Say that if we don't watch the deer, my dog will drag it off......Well in my county (Indiana) I can take one antlered and eight non-antlered deer. So nine small ones will equal a bunch of tasty fare. Suites me just fine.

I'm with everyone else that prefers eating tasty venison instead of a rutty old buck.  Can't eat the horns is what I tell my kids, course they do need to get a good buck once in a while.  Last year was the first year in many that I took a buck and he was a young one that didn't have much of a rack but did taste good.  DP

Nice buck omc,I know all to well about the gun going off.My deer last year could have been CW's twin sister, but like others have said I hunt meat, you can cook them horns all day and you still can't eat them.

Personally, I feel bad shooting them when they are still following their mothers crying. Course I feel bad shooting the mothers then too. But once they are weaned......

WOW! Talk about luck!  I read this post this morning.  I went to the gunshop today where I found a newly traded in .41 Mag Redhawk (7 1/2" tube) for $525.  I dropped $100 on it for lay a way.  Then as I was ready to leave, I asked about handi rifles.  The guy behind the counter told me that he only had one...it was an almost new in box .44 Mag with synthetic stock.  I asked him how much and he said, "How about $200?"

It looked great and needless to say, my name is now on that baby!  I'm looking forward to bringing it home!
Thanks from the Frozen Northwoods!!!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” – John 3:16

That still amazes me…I don’t care who you are or how much I care about you, I would never let you kill my son.  I can’t even begin to understand how much He loves us.

Nice deer for both of you.  CW, that's what we call a pocketbook deer.  Tie it's legs together and throw it over your shoulder like a (european) pocketbook.

I saw one tonight but passed on it - didn't pass because of it's size, I wasn't sure my bow would kill it.  See it's momma was standing between me & the yearling, I really wanted momma, but she was perfectly in line with baby & would not move.  It's legal to take 2 in one day here in NC, but I wasn't sure the broadside pass-though on momma would also go through baby.  Oh well, it was educational.

At last some guys that admit to being DEER hunters instead of trophy hunters. All these hunting shows on TV that show a 10 pointer behind every tree have ruined deer hunting for many of us. My daughter and her family of 7 once ate a deer in 1 week. When my 4 kids were at home, the most deer we ever had in the freezer was 6 and we ran out about 1 month before the next season opened. We shoot'um, we butcher'um ourselves and we eat'um. We have shot a nice buck or two, there is more meat on a buck, but the county I hunt in is always in the bottom 10 in Indiana for total deer killed. So if its brown, its down.
