44 Mag Handi drops a buck,,,,,,
« on: August 29, 2009, 09:04:19 PM »
Used my 44 mag handi to drop another real nice velvet buck. Used it with a 2 1/2 pound trigger-re worked forend-3X9X40 bushnell. Load was a 240 grain jacketed soft point Nosler in starline case with CCI large mag primer and 23.8 grains of H110. Hit in the right shoulder at 40 yards/fell in its tracks. Went out other side. I need to stop shooting these little 190 pound 10 point velvet bucks that we have here in S.C.  ;D

SonnyGun a .44 magnum will kill a deer. Who'd a thunk it. I've killed a truck load with the round.

Outstanding, I love hunting season!!
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."

Yep,, as usual, had a few voice their opinions, they could do better, they woulda let em walk, SC hunting season is wacked, SC has no big deer, ect, ect. They probably never have killed a buck or know what a good buck is. Just a bunch of magazine/tv show/arm chair educated hunters.  :D,,,,,Art

When I get back to the house, I will post a pic,,,,,,,(hunting the next 7 days) ;D

Here is one little skipper I dropped the hammer on some years back. Yup its a wee one.. damn she was tasty!! Personally, I really couldn't care less if someone else could shoot a better/bigger one. I have shot much bigger and better and THAT doesn't matter either. I was happy with it every time I bent my elbow and enjoyed the savory stews and steaks harvesting here afforded me. I post pics so guys who appreciate them can enjoy them. Any one who doesn't like them that posts comments like you mention will just be ignored.

If you are happy with your deer, that's what matters. Don't be so concerned about those kind of negative comments. Besides I'm certain you got some positive ones as well!! YOU put meat in the freezer and feed your family, THATS the bottom line!!

Nice Buck. Dont worry about what the armchair QBs say their just jealous , that you,re out doing it. I know I am. Well said CW. Last year all I shot was a little doe. Let a few smaller bucks walk. eairly on. ran out of time, Long story short. I was happy to put the little doe in the freezer. Sure did taste good.
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

I agree with this.  Antlers are nice, but you can't eat them and that's not why I hunt.

Yea I know,  :-[ it sure looked bigger before I walked up to her. You know, I watched her for about 30 minutes, when she turned and walked to with in about 20 yards, I just couldn't stand it any longer... and the gun just went off...   ::) honest!! Don't feel bad, I shot a 62lb doe once during muzzleloader season, it popped up in heavy cover ahead of me, all I could see was the back of it's head and ears, in retrospect, it's large ears in relation to head size should have given it away as being a yearling, but at the time, meat in the pot was the goal! No wasted meat tho, the round ball in the back of the head worked fine, no lost meat, but I sure took a ribbing from my huntin partner when he shot a 86lb-er the next day!!  :D

NICE POST OMC,

CW, thats a good deer! Horns are very tuff and provide very little nutrition. I have had guns "go off" myself so I can vouch for the scenario! You point at one long enough and sometimes they just go off!  ;)
