Survivor Strippers ? :)
« on: May 18, 2009, 07:03:30 PM »
So now that I have the new survivor stock on the 44 mag , I'm in a little bit of a bind ... I had recalled a product made by "?" (didnt remember) that held 6 rimmed rounds on a flat strip, some what like a stripper clip used by many nations over the years for the rimmed revolver cartridges ... Well now that I have some research under my belt I find that it is bianchi that makes the http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum2876.php
which are the Bianchi 580 Speed Strips for the 38/357 rounds , Which is exactly what I had in mind for the 44 mag survivor in the stock but so far no avail on ones for the 44 spcl/mag ... So those that wanted some other way to store your 357 mag ammo in your 357 survivor other then that ugly spandex sleeve now have this to chew on ;)
I tried some of the stippers I had around the house for various other calibers...Only one that was even close was the SKS stripper that was pretty damn close I might add , And by the way the SKS stripper clip works perfect for 10 rounds of 357 mag  :D so that is a cheaper remedy for you all that wanted a easier way to pocket a hand full of 357's without buying the bianchi stripper ..

I have an old military canvas belt with sewn in belt hoops that work fine for the big mags but i cant find a way to getit into the stocks compartment ... So the question is this ...Has anyone found a good idea for packing in the larger calibers for this stock... I know the 308 is one of the standard cal. for this from the factory so I know someone has had to address this before me ;D so fess up ... how did you remedy not just tossing loose rounds into the survivor stock ?

Hope this helps someone and hopefully someone has some help to offer ,

After thought :   I thought about the bullet wallet too , but since i couldnt fold the loaded canvas belt in half and get it to fit .. I'm greatly doubting the bullet wallet would fair any better..

The "ugly" spandex sleeve works for me cause I have a second shot in my hand before I pull the trigger if I think I may need it.  All my single shots wear them.  I'd use the butt stock cartridge holders and leave the room in the stock for something useful........like venison jerky ;)

I feel better now that I have read the post. ;) I thought there for a minute that we were talking about strippers and how they survived ;D :D :D

Like Pete, I use the spandex type to carry spares in - I think it is Allen brand and they hold 9 cartridges. Along with the one the chamber, about all I need to have with me at a time.

La Otto, they're Allen 206s and they work great.  They hold everything from .45-70 and .410, 357s, down to the .22 centerfires.

I guess I don't want to be clatching around in a box looking for a second shot; ugly or not.  I've got a buddy, cigar smoker, simply replaces his cigar with another round.  He has a hard time lighting it though ;D

Well of course the spandex shell holders are handy ... Fugly as sin but yes functional  .. I was thinking along the lines of the nature of a Survivor type rifle ;) And yes i will be picking up the allens 206

And dont underestimate those surviving strippers , they might be packing handis too ;)

But for those times when its more convenant to have the ammo in the stock for say travel or actually using the rifle in a long term storage situation for the just incase survivor rifle scenerio , Bush pilots etc.
these clips may be quite a useful item versus loose rounds
Just thinking about it you know , and wanted an answer to the question before the need may arise or is in my lap ...

But of course you have to have room for the Jerky , thats why i need the clips .. Dont want my mash'd taters invading my greenbeans perimeter , and i wont stand for it with my jerky and bullets either  :D

I had a pouch on my 45/410 survivor that opened up to two rows of shell holders.  Kind of cumbersome but it worked, also had a compartment where I kept the choke& the choke key along with spare batteries for the red dot.

If you want to put a few rounds in a stripper clip inside the stock you can use either the Enfield or the Russian Mosin Nagant clips.  Both have bases close enough to the 44 magnum base.

A better option, in my opinion, is the little cordura 'wallet' style round holders.  The strippers are good when they are full, but they don't hold the rounds snug once you pull one or two out.  You can put the folded round holder in the stock, or on a sling.  On the sling makes them a little easier to get at.  The stock is best used for a few items you may need but don't use while shooting, in my opinion.

i  just cut bicycle  inner tubes  a few inches  long
and slip  them over the barrel or forend

then slip a few rounds under  the  bands

2 foward 2  backwards   under the barrel ahead of the forend  or

one each left and right where  the barrel and forend meet

see  what works  for  you      i  like it  better  than  on  the shoulderstock carriers  as  i shoot either handed

thanks JLW ,

I hadnt thought of the nagant stripper clips , Yeah they should be close ...As for the bullet wallet it wont work folded over , the 44s are to wide ...
I would think the 357 and 223 would be able to use it but not the 44 the width isnt there for those big round ... Thats why i figured the single stack clips to be a good route.

45Gov ... That rubber barrel band doesnt mess with your accuracy brother ?

Have to admit i hadnt thought of tryin that ... I was thinking about a bandolier sling ... Already have a military belt with hoops , dont know if i want to make into a sling of find a nice leather one with big hoops.

Thought my handi brother might find this interesting too ;)

Really like the dark tanned one but would preffer the the lighter tanned one caliber configuration
