Although I haven't been here since the beginning, I can say I went to the start and went through all the old posts,

did that to get the flavor of the place before joining, it's always nice to check a place out and see if they are the nuts

or you are

Take a look here if you want to see where this board ranks on GBO.  http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php?action=stats

The most unlikely of forums is one of the top ones on the board.

Looking at the stats it suprises me that the Nef/ H&R centerfire Rifles is the most popular board.  I am not going to bash NEF or H&R firearms. I have few of them myslelf and they are great work horses. And very affordable. But nothing really fancy.  As for the Spnsors topic being number 2 I could understand that. There is a lot of neat stuff there. DD you hang out here alot don't ya.

The NEF guys have an entire section of their own and the NEF Centerfire rifle Forum has turned 467 to you guy's 100. Now those boys like to post. They have even surpased the TC guys even tho they've not been here since the beginning like the TC forums have.

I'd have never thought this one would take off as it has. I sorta thought Tim and DD were joking when they proposed this forum to me. I reckon not.  :o

Hi, guys, just wanted to add that I have been on line for 10 years, mostly just looking, and the last couple of years, after I retired, got to really scout around, and found this forum. This is amazing, and it has fueled a simmerng passion in black powder I've had for several years. I have checked out many of the other forums on Gray Beard, and this is the "home" one for me! Good job, Double D and Tim, it is really fun to be here, and I like the way you welcome the "newbies"! Plus the in-debth explanations of everything connected to the "hobby" of Black Powder.     BoomLover

well I can just agree to all of you , this is the one and only place to be .

Ive searched the web for cannon related forums and other interesting cannon sites for several years ,
and still do sometimes .

but nothing even come close to this place .

this is just so complete , and if you not find what you looking for its just to ask .

a few other forums where Im a member ( mechanical enginering and foundry related ) , there it could take weeks sometimes to have an reply .

if Im in here when you guys are awake it just takes minutes sometimes to get an ansver here , this is an increadible active forum .  I just love this place .

The most unlikely of forums is one of the top ones on the board.

When I first came here it was because of the NEF forum. I had one old 12 ga Topper at the time, my first shotgun. I have a few more now, along with a pile of barrels...

I was amazed at the traffic on the NEF forum. I even posted once "Why THIS forum?" Seemed to me that the el-cheapo NEF guns would be off the radar for most 'gun guys.'

I had a few BP cannons at the time, two of which I built from scratch. I went down the page and says "Hmmm... There's a cannon board here. I'll have to check this out!"

I wish I'd known about it before; I've probably learned 75% of what I know about cannons since reading here.

Now if we could just start a sub-forum for pneumatic cannons, my life would be complete...

If you want your own forum, you can request one.  Go here http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/board,4.0.html.  Be sure you open and Carefully read the first post with Graybeards instructions on how to open a poll requesting a forum.

As far as making a sub forum of this forum.  We had a poll on this in the past.  The answer was no. If you want your own specialized forum you should go all the way and be your own forum don't ride our coat tails and don't get drug down with us. Go on your own merits.

I for one would drop by every once in a while for a visit, Tim I think would be there all the time. He's  kid, I am a BOF.

Part of the sucess of this forum, I think is the narrow scope we have maintained. It has taken a heavy hand to keep that scope.  If you want your own forum you need to establish right from the start what you want to focus on, establish the guidlines and stick to those guidlines.

I think you should go for it, and good luck.

Let me add two things of significance (in time order, both are critically important):

1. DD & I came to an agreement (because of dealing with one or two 'individuals') on a very workable set of 4 rules for the board.  (See those in the stickies.)

2. The people that have both participated in posting and those in sponsoring us have been QUALITY folks - supporting one another and carrying on VERY positive and safe discussions and activities.

Thanks to one and all!

The Topic count goes back to January 1, 2003.  I think that is when the BPM&C forum started. If I remember right about a month or so before GBO went through a soft ware and format remodel.  The change over required us for security reasons to register and actually log in and we had until January 1 to register. We didn't have to prior to that. what an uproar that caused.

Graybeard reorganized the board and ask for ideas for new forums that's when Tim made a motion, and I seconded BPM&C.  There was some on board discussion about forming the board, but I don't see thise topics anymore.  I also remember Bill's reluctance, not thinking we would have much activity.

Victor3,

You must be the only person other than me to think up a use for the WWII grenade launching sight!  ;D

Good eye there Kabar.  ;) I bought a few of them years ago thinking they had to be good for something.

I think they were $4 each, new in the canvas pouch with instructions. Couldn't pass them up for that cheap. They might even be useful for a BP cannon application.

There's no question he's the champ, 181 d + 16 h = 4,360 hours; dats alotta meatballs Poppa! It's just because of the medium keeping a record that can be accessed that we get a figure we're surprised with. I'd guess that if people could view a count of many everyday activities, such as time spent in conversation, driving, reading, etc., covering a ten yr. period, that most of us would be surprised by the numbers.
