Tim's right.  Those 2 come with 26" barrels and get the most out of both cartridges.  Even the 45-70 can be pushed around by small branches, so you would need to wait till a clear shot was available.  Brush-busting rounds are pretty much a myth.  The farther away from the target the obstruction is, the more the bullet leaves it's path.  DP

The obstruction the 45-70 deals with well is the critter.  Goes right through about anything in North America.

Honestly I think the odds of H&R discontinuing Handi's is about zero. Especially since after this Tuesday everything that holds more than one cartridge at a time will probably be considered an illegal assault rifle  :-\
