No, they won't even fit another .357 or .44 barrel to the factory SB1 rifles! :-\

Tim

*Note: The frame of the 44 Mag. (SB1-S44) and the 357 Mag. (SB1-S35) cannot be fit with any other centerfire rifle barrel. They are capable of being fit with accessory shotgun barrels, but their rifle capability is limited to the specific 44 or 357 Mag. barrel that it is shipped on the gun.

Now that just don't make no sense at all.

Tim,
Do you know why or can you find out why??
Are the barrels for those particular guns different or something??

Barrells are the same, The reciever is the diffrence. They figgure the pistol rounds are safe on shotgun frames but not anything more powerful, You can have a .357 or .44 fitted to a sb2 centerfire frame however, You just can't buy a complete (NEW) rifle on a sb2. 8)

Now you guys have me screwed up.  You can safely put a .357 barrel on a SB-1 frame, but the factory won't do it????  HUH???

petemi,  The factory only sells the .357 and .44 on SB 1 frames now. They used to be on SB2s but no more.  You can have one fitted to a SB 2 frame by the factory in the barrel program.

That was my question.
If they sell it on an SB1 frame why won't they fit one to an SB1 frame??

SB1 shotgun frames have big firing pins, the SB1 357mag and 44mag frames have smaller rifle firing pins and more importantly, the hole for the firing pin is smaller which makes a big difference for the pressures involved with even the 357 and 44mag which are about 3 times that of shotgun pressures.

I can see it now.

Some time down the road one of these frames will come up on the market for sale and some poor yo-yo will buy it... compare it to a picture of an SB2 frame with the small hole... think to himself... well it looks the same... fit a .270 barrel to it... and blow his face off!!

Is there some other way to distinguish between them??

My dealer has one of the new .357 mags.
I think I'm gonna go take a look at it.
If I buy it I'll be puttin' them ugly plastic stocks up for sale so keep your eyes peeled.

Oh yeah, and I'll stamp the frame with a warning sign so I'm not the one who blows his face off.

Sure would be a good way to have a bad day!!

I think Swampman or someone else said the same or similar warning that's on the website is marked on the frame.

I had one of the older Survivor SB2's in .357 mag. The barrel is marked "SB2".

It had a terrible trigger, so I kept the .357 barrel and sold it with a .223 bull barrel.

I later tried it on my Huntsman frame (shotgun firing pin size) and it worked, but I had primer flow into the FP hole which caused sticky opening.

Later, I bought another SB2 type framed gun and she works peachy.

Personally, I think they should go with the SB2 frames for all new production to avoid the potential kaboom.

Frames aren't marked SB anything, just barrels, even the current SB1 357 and 44mag barrels are marked SB2 cuz that's what they were made as originally in the barrel run which can be up to 500 barrels at a time.

sent my SB1 shotgun frame in right before everything changed hands with remington, they fitted a .357 barrel to my frame .....it shoots real good. it does put a bigger dent in the primer because of the shotgun firing pin, but after 300 rounds i've had no problem with primers.

My Huntsman is on an SB1 frame.  I never thought about fouling in the frame through the firing pin hole.  I haven't had a problem with it, but I think down the line I'll put it on an SB2.  In fact, I think SB-2 frames on everything would be a good idea.  Pete

not to sounds like a wise a$$, but why not just stick with factory recommendations or purchase the correct firearm of choice/caliber to begin with? NEF's are certainly inexpensive enough to do that
