hello folks,I sure that you are tired of my negitive comments about NEF. but here is something else that everyone that had a barrel fitted durring or right after NEF H&R moved to remmington.
A) immeddiatly after receiving my barrel from the mail and assembling it, I noticed a great deal of slack in the barrel. I measured it was 8_9 thoundsands slop. I also was missing the pallet wood stock I ordered. Spoke with Ed in thhe repair department, and got satisfaction anser on the replace ment of the stock. I can fix the slack in the barrel.
B) after that conversation, I laid the rifle down on my work bench and when I picked it up, I noticed that the pin holding the locking latch was broken (did not tare down frame at this point ) . called repair department again and had them send me a pin at which the did at no cost. Took them over a week to get pin to me, snail mail I guess.
C) fianall got around to dis assembley of frame and found that the latch lifting spring had been broken. Aother call to repair and another week + of snail mail, I still have not received my spring .
D) last nightwhile re loading some .243 rounds to shoot in my barell (yea right) I glanced over to the bowl of parts for my rifle and I dont why it caught my eye but it did, I noticed what looked like a hair on my barrel latch catch. I picked it up and tried to remove the hair but it was not a hair but a hair line crack on one of the ears that the pin goes through. I spread it apart with a pair of pliers and very little pressure and it broke in 1/2. Thank GOD that I noticed this. There is no telling what would have happened while shooting this rifle if the latch broke. Again I will call repair department and order this part and wait another week or so before I can again measure the slop in my barrel and repair it.
tHIS RIFLE WAS SENT THE FIRST OF JUNE FOR A NEW BARREL AND HERE IT IS OCTOBER AND I STILL HAVE NOT FIRED A SHOT THROUGH MY NEW BARREL.
Any way if you just got your new barrel back from remmington you need to take it apart (if your able) or have some one check it for you to insure that you have a SAFE fire arm. Right now I dont trust remmington to do anything to my Handi . Herres the point , I sent to the factory a frame to have a barrel fitted. again to the factory. These people are suposse to be pro's. I got back an unsafe gun that could not have been inspected very close before shipping back to me or these problems would have been caught.
I Know that Tim and a bunch more of you have said give them a chance after the move things shoul get better but the craftmenship and quality control should have been the first thing that remmington insisted on. I feel that it was a bad choise for remmington to purchase NEF H&R marlin. and they will never ever have a chance to make a 2nd / first immpression.
