Here's some of mine:

93r17btvs 17hmr with a leupold fixed 10xAO scope(not shown) in Warne rings

112 action/ 26" McGowen 308 bull barrel/ Richards Tactical stock/SSS trigger/ Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40 scope(not shown)

one of my 308 targets

12BVSS 22-250 in a Choate stock/Nikon BM 6-18x40 scope. This pic was of me on a recent Wyoming prarie dog trip.

I also have a 112 long action w/a SSS trigger I'm getting ready to build on, just cant decide what caliber. Poss. a 6br or 6.5x55.

Davemuzz, I'm curious how you like your 6.5x55?

KRP, Same question about your 6br and 260? which do you like better?

I've narrowed my options down to these 3 calibers and also a 25-06 for my next build, just cant decide. I will use it mostly for target/varmints, but may want to swap stocks and use for deer once in a while.

decisions, decisions, decisions ;D

pdog06,

There's no doubt I like this Swede caliber a bunch. The ballistics are good for whitetail and the recoil is "soft". Right now I'm working up a load to see if I can get an even tighter group than what I now get using RL-22. Today I shot some Bergers over IMR-3031 using WLR primers. There is no published load on the 3031, but I've checked with a few different sources and this powder burns a bit faster than the ones usually recommend for the Swede, those that have used it seem to say it makes for teeny tiny groups.

So far I've got some promising results and no signs of pressure issues.

I'll post some results when I get "the warm fuzzys" with this.

Davemuzz, ok, here's my homework assignment:

 ;D

Ok, made it to the range today with some test loads. I started with the 50 gr hornady VMAX seated to 2.350 for starters, and a couple of nosler BT 55 gr's also. Mostly the VMAX, as I only had 100rds of brass.

I started with federal match primers and cci benchrest primers loaded with both varget and h-380 in .5 gr increments. Each group is a 5 shot group, shot consecutively, without letting the rifle cool between shots.

So far, the best performers have been loads #5 and #6 on target #1, which are:

#5 = cci br primer, varget powder charge of 35.0 grs

#6 = cci br primer, varget powder charge of 35.5 grs

And on target #2, loads #3 and #4, which are:

#3 = federal match primer, h-380 powder charge of 38.0 grs

#4 = federal match primer, varget powder charge of 34.5 grs

First impressions are good. I like the gun. The trigger is better than I hoped. The gun (or the shooter) seems to want to throw the first shot out to left, then group the next four. I don't know if that's me or the rifle, but I'm betting it's me. I have just shot the gun off the rest and bag, and let the front of the gun do whatever it wanted, not trying to hold it down, only squeezing the rear bag for elevation. The rife pushes back and does want to torque a little under recoil (only a little, but I let it do it). The first shot could just be the butt settling down in the rear bag?

Here's the pudding:

Oh and so far, the nosler's have been the biggest groups, the big patterns on the targets are the BT's with varget and h-380 both. Will have to try different powders and/or primers for those puppies.

For deer I would prefer one of the 6.5s, although a fast twist 6 with heavy bullets would do it for sure.  I originally planned on a 6.5x55 but got a deal on the 260 barrel and extras.  Both my 6BRs are easy to load for and fun to shoot and that would be my first choice, if I had to choose.   I just went ahead and got both though. ;D

If I had to choose one I would pick one of the 6.5s over the .25.  Seems there is a better selection of bullets available.  I am considering a 250 Savage Improved for one of my next builds though since I don't have a 25 caliber yet.

Thanks for the info. My build has changed slightly. I wont be using it for deer cause I bought a 308 barrel for my other action. So this will now be a dedicated bench/varmint gunwith a bull barrel.

Probably do the 6br or the 6.5x55.

Hey FatNDN,

What primer are you using with this load?:

"36gr Varget - 55 gr CT Ballistic silvertips = < .50" groups @ 100 yds."

Might be all I need to change is the primer??

Thanks.

I've owned quite a few of those Savage combo's, and shot even more of them.

If only Savage would have taken the time to regulate the bbls so they both shot to the sights... I've yet to shoot one that does...  :'(   If only they had made them hammerless and with double triggers!!  Then they would have had a winner!!

I have shot mine a couple times with slugs to check the regulation. Mine is as you describe. BUT, I could hit a pie plate at 50yards, just not in the center. I try to shoot the .410 as I do any other shotgun and it works very well for me. When I first bought it I brought it out shooting hand thrown clays for S&G. Not expecting it to do very well, but it did. I was able to break many more than I expected.

2 7/8" Breneke's shoot pretty darn well, keeping 3 slugs in a base ball at 50 yards. ::)

Hey! JCN59

That stock looks a lot like the stock I put under my 600 Rem. Is it from Richards Microfit?

Stock was on gun when I bought it as a 30-06.  Don't really know where it came from.
