The book says about 30 fps per inch. Mine is a 24" and does just fine. Wouldn't mind if it was shorter. I consider it a mid range rifle for deer size game. No reason a long shot couldn't be made with it either. Does a great job I might add. Just for fun, I lined up two doe deer last year and made a double head/neck shot. Legal to take two deer per day in NC and I do this from time to time when I am meat hunting. Used an old copper Barnes bullet with great result.
I like the 7mm-08 because of its low recoil. This aids me in making a very accurate shot. I really do not like magnums at all. Been through that and old enough now to know that it isn't worth the weight, expense, long barrels, blast, recoil, and accuracy problems.
