2 New Savage .308's
« on: June 25, 2008, 12:46:40 PM »

A Model 12 F-TR, and a Model 10 FP, both are in .308. I picked both of them up yesterday. Now the fun begins with scope and mount selection, along with putting it all together. I've got some .308 handloads, but I've got nothing but time to hit the press and try and come up with some type of meal they'll both like. I won't be doing any serious shooting with either of them until the Fall when these temperatures break a little. I've got high hopes for the both of these guns, and they are the first Savage bolt guns I have bought. In all of the years I've been seeing them at the range, I really haven't seen a bad one, or an unhappy owner for that matter.  Bill T.

Nice rifles. I'm still waiting to see what my Model 12BVSS-S in .308 likes. So far I've only shot a box of Cheap Remington 150 gr. factory loads and a half of a box of 165 gr UltraMax loads, which it liked a whole lot more. Since that time my dies came in, but I had surgery and couldn't lift the rifle without damaging myself....Soon, however,... very soon...

I have a 10FP in .223 with a B&C stock that is the most accurate rifle I had ever shot until my brother bought a 10FP in .308. I do not have my reloading info handy but his "load" was Sierra's 168gr MK HPBT with ?? gr of Varget for target shooting. Needless to say, we love our 10FP's too. Here's mine ... with a 4200 Elite scope on her ...

How do you like the 4200 Elite? Love that stock by the way. Did it swap out easy? Bill T.

I love the scope and have looked through no others I have liked better. The B&C stock was bought through Midway USA and was a drop in except for very minimal sanding in the barrel channel. Good luck with your Savages ... I think you will really enjoy 'em.

A couple of friends are using that target action for their .30BR guns, and they are shooting in the .300" range with Hart barrels.  I'm planning on picking one up myself, but not sure if I want to go with the .30BR or not.  Should be a shooter in .308, as I have yet to meet a Savage that isn't!

Have no doubts, they will be shooters.  Savages always are.
