Just to satisfy my curiosity

Do you know of any company that offers a side by side fully rifled double barrel shotgun?

A few years ago I saw a photo of one. I think it was in an annual get together for double gun owners and was possibly on the Double Gun and Single Shot web site (the magazine). I think one of the photos showed Doug Turnbull showing a gun. I think the slug gun was an old model of new manufacture like a Parker or Ithaca. It had fully rifled barrels and was 20-ga. I don't know if it was on a 20-ga action or maybe a 12 ga action. No details were given so I don't know if much effort was put into regulating the barrels.

How feasible would it be to have a gunsmith / machinist cut rifle grooves in an existing double barrel shotgun?

This is not an expert opinion, but I think it would work better to have a gunsmith duplicate the contours of the original smoothbore barrels with new fully riflled barrels, then remove the smoothbore barrels and replace them with the rifled barrels. Based on the way most slug guns recoil, I would consider starting with a 12-ga double and using fully rifle 20-ga barrels for the replacement. That way the greater thickness of the new barrels would add some weight for less recoil. Then I would use custom turned brass cases from Rocky Mountain Cartrige and cast heavy lead bullets for it. I did that for a Thompson-Center TCR87. That is, used a 20-ga fully rifled barrel with the outside conture of a 10-ga. It weighs about 8.5 pounds with scope and shoots 550-grain bullets at 1,330 fps with good accuracy. The bullets are cast out at 720 grains, but the weight is reduced to 550 grains by drilling out hollow points. I would guess it would be very expensive to regulate the barrels to hit to the same point of impact. However, by varying bullet weight (which can be changed by varying the depth of the hollow point) and varying powder charge, I think one could get regulation accomplished at no cost. However, the loading dies and bullet cast are not cheap.

Just what the doctor ordered but the pricetag is not for the faint of heart.

Verry nice!  I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I were in a position to do so.  $4k is reasonable for what it is, but it's just not what I can spend money on right now.

Wouldn't it be possible to have a set of rifled choke tubes installed? On one of the double gun sights someone made mention of a gent who shot a large variety of different slugs through a SxS until he found one that it liked. The idea was an economical double gun.

Closest thing that mere mortals can buy are the .45x70 SxS from EAA/USSG for ~$800.

why not just add rifled choke tubes ? being able to switch back and forth or , are you ready ? a rifled tube on one side and reg. choke on the other ! I am trying a tube in a 20 ga pump that if it works i am considering trying it in a Ruger O/U ( less to regulate ) . Carlson makes the tubes .
A winchester mod 23 already has screw in tubes on some guns and is a well built gun .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
