How do you feel about this list.  I'm paying these special consideration as a hunting partner.  Any experiences or thoughts?  I'll have time to shoot them at a range soon and decide for myself if 38 oz is too light for the 44mag.  I don't really want a ported barrel either.  TWo of these offer that I think.  Thanks

Given the issues with Taurus and having had a Ruger Redhawk,  I would go with the S&W.

You list your first option as a Taurus M44 which is a .44 Magnum but your link is to the M66 .357 Magnum. Your second item listed is also a .357 magnum the S&W M686. Only your last listed item is a .44 magnum yet that is what you seem to be talking about buying. I'm confused.  ??? Which of course is nothing new.  ;D

Do you want a .357 Magnum or a .44 Magnum?

If a .357 then the S&W 686 is an excellent choice but is kinda heavy for a .357 to my thinking. I prefer the S&W M66 as it is the size I feel a .357 Magnum should be. If you are wanting a .44 magnum then you need to be looking at the M29 or M629 in the S&W line or perhaps even the very light 329 but with max loads recoil is gonna be a handful.

I'd avoid the Taurus guns completely unless you go with the very heavy Raging Bull which seems to be good guns in spite of Taurus' quality problems with their other guns.

I'll avoid discussing the Ruger as I'm just not very fond of them. In general to me they feel more like boat anchors than handguns.

Like the Boss, I'd avoid the Taurus due to poor quality control and customer service.
As for a hunting .44 mag, a S&W N-frame is a great choice in a double action gun. The Ruger Redhawk is also a great choice. Mine was very accurate, but really heavy. I traded it for a single action Bisley in .44 mag. (I have three now.) Before you make up your mind, go and handle a Bisley and see how you like it. SA guns are a great deal of fun, accurate, easy to clean, and once you get hooked you won't go back!

i'm partial to ruger in both 357 mag and 44 mag double actions. that bisley in a 44 mag could also be
a good hunting partner,as well as the blackhawk hunter. the 686 also deserves a look. my way of thinking is
any one of the guns mentioned will perform well. good luck with your pick and good shootin. dan

see if you can locate a dan wesson in 44mag from either monson or norwich look at gunbroker , gunamerica, and auctionarms they are as strong as a ruger more accurate than a smith and have interchange barrels

  I've owned many of the 44's that have been made over the years, and the best, most accurate 44's i've owned have been the S&W M-29's...  So, of course they get my vote...  Here's the 44's i still own today...

I agree with your choice but Dan Wesson was not listed and I took the .445 Supermag to the range yesterday.  Very accurate and SWEET..... 
The 8 inch barrel has the VX-III 2.5-8 and the 4 inch barrel is ported which really makes it 5 inches.

Here it is with the 4 inch barrel and the 5 inch shroud due to the porting
