Wal fur dang shore I ain't Ruger nut err even Ruger fan fer that matter.  :) BUT I did once own one long long ago when they first came out. Six inch barrel if memory serves me correctly. It's been a long time ago but I honest can't remember any dissatisfaction with it. For those who know me and my feelings on these Ruger guns that's pretty darn high praise don't ya know. Me thinks it a good buy for that.

Britt,
I am not sure what fair market value is I would have to know more about it.  I had one years ago had a 2 inch barrel, that thing sure was loud though.  I traded it for a 4 5/8 Ruger Black Hawk in 41 mag.  That gun holds a special place in my safe.   If memory serves I gave 180 bucks for my security six but that was 10 years ago at least.

According to my books they are worth between 200 bucks and 250 depending on barrel length and if its stainless or not.  Id offer them 225 and see what happens.

I sold a nice one about 6 yrs ago for $250, I doubt the price has changed much. If it were me and it was a really nice one I would probably buy it. If its stainless that is. If its blue I'd only go $200. KN

I agree, I'd "low ball  'em " and see what happens. It always opens the door for price negotiations. I still have my security 6.  Mines a 4" stainless .357 with walnut grips. The only thing I've done is changed the grips, I placed a set of Hogue grips on it only to replace them with a set of Pachmyer decelerators. I gave 150.00 for mine a "few" years back. I had left the ambulance service as an EMT and went to work with the Sheriff's Dept so I could go back to school. At the time all officers were required to furnish their own weapons. I stopped by the office one day to pick up my letter to purchase from the Sherriff ( a letter that bypassed the then mandatory "waiting period" and allowed for an over the counter sale) A day shift Sgt. and I were talking and I made mention of wanting a revolver, when he made mention of the above gun and showed it to me at his house later that day I jumped on it. I also got a half box of hollowpoints, two speedloaders and a leather basketweave carrier for the speedloaders out of the deal.
Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time....ES

I've got five of them.  Bought all of 'em before ol' Bill sold out to the anti's.  Ain't bought another Ruger since.
They're good guns after you clean the metal debris out of 'em and install a spring kit and put a set of Pachmayers on 'em.  Oh yeah, you gotta de-burr 'em too.
Don't believe everything you think.

Mine's A 4" barrel blued with hogue grips, I like it a lot. If I had to start selling guns(god forbid) it would be the last one to go.
I don't remember how much I paid for it, If I were you I'd make a low offer and go from there.

All good advice .

They are durable and accurate you could pass on to the kids.

A decent set of grips is a must.
