Finally got around to actually checking the trigger pull weight on my .308win. Surprised the heck out of me, was a consistent 6 pounds! Actually feels much lighter but alas it's not. Had really no creep or grittiness's. Actually was a decent trigger had it not been for the heavy pull (that until I checked it I would of never suspected). Soooo....out come the tools. Pull the action from the stock. Pull off tamper resistant 'covers'. Actually the 'covers' are globs of white silicon or similar substance. After several hours of careful adjusting, I've come to the conclusion that Howa trigger groups are well made but lack the refinement AND and anyway to refine them properly that other makes/brands sometimes have. The more you lighten the pull and then compensate for the creep, the grittier the pull. At 1.5# the safety stops working. At 1.75# the safety works about 98% of the time. At 2.25# the safety works 100% but the pull feels terrible. Work your way back up to 4.5# or more and the pull becomes very smooth and nice but of course it's a heavy pull. It's actually very deceiving if you only use your finger vs the trigger weight scale. I don't know if stoning any of the surfaces would work wonders or not but I'm not capable of doing that. I've always shy-ed away from stoning surfaces, you screw up the works if you don't know what to do. I think I'll order a Timney and see if it's worth $90 over the stock trigger. For those who want to tinker with their factory trigger, you need a 7mm 'micro' or igniton type wrench for the stop nuts.
