I have a lot different of bolt guns and for one reason or another, or for one use or another, they all seem to be "the favorite" at one time or another.  But, the one I hunt with the most is the same as your favorite.  A Ruger stainless .308.  I think it is very well made and engineered.

I have many brands but I like my Winchester Featherweight in 30-06 with a Leupold 2x7 scope the best. It is light to carry and packs plenty of muscle to get the job done cleanly.

I've been using 700 Rem.'s since the 70's and they have been very reliable and accurate...  I don't see any reason to change now...

I believe my favorite would be any of the Swedish Mausers.

I like the M96 with the long barrel but do have a M96 I modified a bit.  I had a 26" barrel installed and had it chambered for the 458 American.  Quite a thumper!

My Savage 110L. I bought it when JFK was the President elect. Savage was the only maker of left handed bolts on a production basis, back then. It was a .243, until it lost interest in grouping light bullets. I had it rebored and it is stamped .263 Express. That cartridge is now know as the .260 Remington. Anyway, it is the rifle that brought me to the dance, and I'll never trade or sell it. I hope my granddaughter puts it to good use, she's my only surviving heir.  :-\

Ruger MKII in 6.5 X 55 Swedish Mauser

It kicks like a .243 and hits damn near as hard as a .270 ( well, a light .270 anyway ;)  )

Sentimental favorite - a high number Springfield sporter 30-06 I inherited from my dad. Built in the late 40s by an instructor at Colorado School of Trades gunsmith school. It has taken pronghorn antelope, sheep, moose, caribou, elk, mule deer, whitetail and blacktail deer. It makes those old memories flow and unlike my other rifles, there is no way I would consider letting it out of the family.

Sentimental favorite is a Remington 510 that all the kids in the family learned to shoot with.

Go-to favorite is a tough call, but I'll go with versatility. A Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle in 30-06.

right now a raggedy ol' win 670a (cheap ranger version of model push feed) that i nabbed at a gun show for $200. seems to a shooter. but it will get some country boy mods. i really like the m-70 trigger and safety.
