Remington Model 7 XCR
« on: February 11, 2007, 07:31:22 PM »
I recieved the new 2007 Remington catalog at Bass Pro Shops today.  The new model 7 XCR is kind of exciting.  It has a fluted barrel and weighs 1/2 pound more than the CDL version.  I wonder if they had to put a heavier barrel on the gun so they could flute it?  Looks nice and comes with the New X mark Pro trigger.  Very nice.

I haven't seen the new XCR, but I've noticed that both Remington and Ruger have come out with new triggers on their bolt guns.  I'm guessing Savage's accutrigger had something to do with this.  To quote Martha Stewart: "It's a good thing."

Got any pics of the gun?  Sounds like it is a sweet machine, even for a Remington.   ;)

Hey, what do you mean.....even for a Remington?  For the money, they make a very nice rifle...probably the best overall value in the marketplace all things considered.  They shoot extremely well, the fit and finish is good, the triggers are very good once adjusted, and they are the basis for a good many custom rifles...they must be doing something right!  I know bad mouthing Remington is a way of life for many people but after owning 30 some Remingtons, I have never had an issue with any of them.   On the other hand, the Winchesters sucked in so many ways, the Weatherby would often not fire because of a weak firing spring, the Browning firing pin broke after just 4 rounds, and the Sako 75's are too darn heavy and bulky to carry all day....shot well though.   But a nice Rem 700 balances well, shoots straight and takes a lot of abuse without so much as a hiccup.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm just poking at you, cause I know you love your Remington's.   :)  I've had several that were awesome, and several that weren't.  Just like any other gun.  I love the model 7's, one of my "perfect" rifles would based on it.  Ultimate whitetail gun.  Although, it sounds like the XCR version is pretty darn close to what I dream of......

OK, I downloaded the Remington Catalog to see the XCR Model Seven.......sigh.......I think that it just may be the most ideal deer and big game and varmint and predator and everything else rifle I've ever seen.....sigh......I hope that I never see one in the store.  The loveliest woman in the world will be very PO'd to see that one (probably two or three of them  ;D) on the VISA.

I would have to say the "best gun for the money" would have to be the Stevens 200 and Mossberg ATR..............with the Winchester Super Shadows at $400 next........I happen to have all the above........in more expensive rifles, the Ruger 77 is a great rifle.
