CZ 527 204 ,is it a good rifle
« on: February 03, 2007, 05:48:21 PM »

I  am considering a cz 527 in 204 ruger, either with an american or brown laminate stock. May consider the kelvar stock, just a litttle more expensive.Any comments on these rifles appreciated.Whitttakers seems to have the best price so far.I haven not heard anything bad so far about these rifles. This rifle is just to play with. Most likely will not do any serious hunting with it. I already have a 22-250 and 223 in other guns,so please dont tell me I should buy one and quote ballistics on the other calibers. I will reload the ammo,if I decide to buy one.

I own a CZ 527 Lux/American in .223 Remington. It started out as a Lux model with the humpback stock and all. I just didn't like the cheek-weld with that hogback, but forced myself for a year to take my time. One day I saw where CZ-USA sells aftermarket stocks, so I bought one. I had to do some minor inletting. The Lux model has the open sights, so I had to do some inletting to allow for the rear sight  band. The American model does not have sights. Anyway, the action is glass smooth, is a mini-mauser action, has a highly adjustable trigger for pull weight, creep and overtravel. It also has a set trigger which is set into action by pushing the regular trigger forward until you hear a click. The regular trigger then becomes a set trigger with a 12 ounce pull weight. My rifle will put five 50 grain Hornady SX bullets into an area the size of a dime time after time if UI do my part on the sandbags. I put a Bushnell 3200 Elite in 7x21x40, which I bought from the Optic Zone for a great price. I thought when I first bought it that I would have a problem with the hang-down magazine. Now it just seems to belong on the rifle. It is a petite little rifle capable of some fantastic groups. I once popped a p-dog out in Bonita Canyon near Grants, New Mexico at a lastered 468 yards with it. The shot was witnessed by a shooting buddy of mine. I didn't try another shot that far though. Shoot and hit one time and you are a fantastic shot, shoot twice and hit once and it, well, you get the drift. Below is a photo of my CZ 527 Lux/American. If you put the cursor on the pix and left click it, the photo will be enlarged. I highly recommend the CZ 527. I don't own a .204 Ruger so I will not comment on it, however, I have heard some very good reports about the cartridge from those who do own it and frequent these forums. Good Luck ... Tom P

To be perfectly fair about it all, you also need to check out the post from a fellow who says he did not have a good experience with his in that caliber. Like I have always said there is no way to get an absolute on anything these days. Tom P

I bought one for my son for Christmas.....then to my surprise , my wife and kids bouth me the exact gun , 527 Varmint in a Ruger .204 caliber. ( walnut and blued)    All I can say is MAN ...what a great rifle.   So accurate, little or no recoil...loud...yes....wear that hearing protection as you should all the time anyway .....this ain't that old 22...........if blazes , holds zero, and mechanically ....have not had issues...even though again it is new.........and fewer than 150 rounds through either of them..     I would recommend them to anyone.....a bad experience...sure....there will be some.....somewhere.......I am sure the best Sako has had an issue or two , as has the Remington, Winchester etc etc.....the previous poster was correct.....who knows what you will get...but so far , what i got was a great rifle.......and I will not let the "glass half empty " way of thinking , work against me when I have read 10 more times the amount of good press , than bad...I can only speak for me.....and I am pleased beyond my expectations......

My buddy has the CZ American in 204 and it is a tack driver. I like the looks of the walnut stocks better than the laminate but the laminate sure would be a better all weather rifle. Whittakers is a great shop to buy from but another one I like is www.budsgunshop.com No matter which CZ you choose I'm sure you will be happy with it. They are all fine rifles.

I just got a 527 kevlar in .204 ruger, excellent gun have put less than 50 rounds through it and I couldn't ask for a better gun was at the range goofing around and produced this group at 100yds with a nice breeze going i'm sure that the gun can perform much better......oh yeah used cheap 32gr HSM ammo
