Pressures????

What pressure level do i need to stay under while handloading for the handi?  First off will be the 204.  I believe i remember somewhere around 50,000 but dont remember if this is right.

also i am looking at powders for small caliber rifles and its looking like varget would be a pretty good all around powder for me.  204, 223, 243 will be future loadings.

Any book load for up to the .30-06 class case head size will work fine using normal, safe loading procedures and load work up, but I try to use those powders that provide good velocity with less pressure compared to other powders. That's where using data that includes pressures is handy for a Handi!! Handi frame flex is the issue, the hotter loads tend to be hard on brass,  you'll start getting stuck brass usually long before you get the usual pressure signs, at least that's been my experience with numerous calibers in the Handi when working up loads.

ok sounds good, just didnt want to blow her up in my face.  but also what about the powder.  what are you guys' favorite powders for small bores in handi's

I was gonna give examples, Hodgdon's online data would be a good place to look to see what I mean, Hodgdon Extreme powders are my favorites in all calibers, but there are some exceptions.

ok, i was actually looking at hogden's site earlier trying to decide on a powder that i could use for two or three guns that had good performance/low pressure capabilities.

I have no clue what powder is best for your .204 but I do know I use Varget in some .223, .243, and .308 loads. I use H-335 in some .223 loads. Varget is very tolerant of temperature changes and that is one reason I stick with it. It doesn't meter well at all ... but, it doesn't matter to me.

Good luck with that .204 ... please let us know as you work your load development.

yeah im just getting started, and i will probably buy the lee aniv. kit this week when i get the old paycheck.  probably wont buy components till next check, but it will give me time to see what grain of bullets it likes in factory loads so i know which to buy.

Also how did he get a the 7.62 into the chamber?? he would have had to push pretty durn hard. you would think a guy would notice something is wrong

Evidently not, it happened!! ::) The 7.62 russian is short enough is must have seated the bullet at the shoulder/neck in the .243 chamber. In any event, it says a lot for Handi strength, the Russian round operates in a normal chamber at about 49kcup.

Josh, you might want to look at the Lee turret press kit. I started out years ago with the anniversary kit and really enjoyed it but for only $20 more you can get the turret press kit (it doesn't have the shell holders, hand held primer or load book like the anniversary kit does). I just bought one and so far I love it. You won't have to change out and re-adjust the dies after each operation and for loading multiple calibers you can just pop out one turret with the dies in it and pop in another one and start loading. Might be worth a look. Charlie
