« on: January 20, 2007, 02:50:31 AM »
does your Tikka like or dis-like any certain "brand" ammo?

i deer hunt with the Winchester BT, with great results. not out of a Tikka, yet. that's why i ask the question. kinda give me a starting point. i bought a box of powerpoints to get her sighted in.
I'm not an expert, but i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. ;D

Hey tennbuck, so far I've only shot four different factory loads in my Tikka .30-06 and at this point I have not found one that it DOESN'T like  :).  I've been deer hunting with Winchester silver box 165 grain pointed soft points with great results.  I am tickled that this load does so well in my rifle: it is readily available almost anywhere, not expensive, and quite deadly on deer.  Yesterday at the range I shot three holes touching at 50 yards with this load.  I did almost the same thing with the Federal Premium 165 grain Nosler Partition which I also shot at 100, and 200 yards.  My rifle likes these two loads the best so far.  I also shot some Hornady interbonds and Barnes tsx.  They both shot pretty well but not quite as good as the first two.  There is a lot more shooting and fine tuning I want to do but am very happy with these two factory loads.  Rev

Tennbuck, I tree stand hunt with my 30-06, T3.  It seems to shoot Noslet Partitions. ballistic tips and Fusion all good in a 180 gr Federal commercial load.  However, last year I tried 180gr Barnes Triple shock and they shot like match bullets.  I was very impressed with this Federal load.  These bullets really get the job done on very large Canadian whitetails, none went further than 30 yards!  I haven't tried anything in the 165gr and 150gr but I will in the future.  I really do believe every barrel can be quite different so get a good rest and go at it.  I am also a very happy camper using Nosler Partitions they have been just great for many years.  Just because they are loder technology doesn't mean they don't work just fine.  Sometimes a real long shot is better with a Partition because you know it will open quite well at lower velocities.

I'd have to say the only stuff it dosen't like are the cheap military loads fron dunhams. Fri, I went to the range and shot Hornady 168, sierra 110, pmc factory and the only thing that didnt group well was the military roounds..oh it's a .308 - Kevin

ditto gunslinger! My 223 doesn't like the military stuff either. UMC is another no, no. Anything else from 40gr to 75gr in 223 shoots great. 55gr Nosler Ballistic tips work really well, accuracy and terminal performance.
My 308 has had a less varied diet, it preferred 165gr Nosler Ballistic tips, if Beretta ever send it back I look forward to finding what she really likes!!

My 25-06 T3 Lite has always shot everything I put through it (Factory Loads) really well.  And then I discovered the 120 gr. Federal Fusions!  This little gun will SHOOT this stuff.  I mean 3 shot groups where every hole is touching, and on a consistant basis I might add.  Granted I pull one every now and then, but the gun and ammo are apparently madly in love with each other.  And it has performed well in the field also, killing both deer I shot this year.

Just my experience,

I have not found a load (factory or handloaded) that my rifles wont shoot.I could tell within the first 10 shots on each rifle that they were going to be accurate. What is funny though,in .243 the 2 different loads I use which are completely different, end up shooting about 1 inch apart from each other if I use the same scope. They are 42 gr different in weight and bullet type!!!!!

I've yet to find a factory load that my 338 WM does NOT like. Rem Core Lokts, Win silver tips, Fail safes, Accubonds, Federal TBBC, TSX....you name it..
