Other than the stock, what are the differences between the 700 BDL and the SPS? I really want the legendary 700 performance, and I don't want to sacrifice quality, but I like the synthetic SPS stock and the price. Thanks.

that was a simular question I was debating, the lss or sps stainless

Being the Old Fashioned and Conservative type of person that I am, I would pick the BDL. The BDL, with its wooden stock, may end up being the Odd Man Out soon, stacked between the SPS, Model 7 and the CDL, it may not survive as you know it.

I don't think so. The BDL has been around for years and years, and that traditional BDL wood design is timeless.

All my Rems are BDL. I love that wood.

SPS has a matte finish that doesn't require the polishing hand work of the BDL. Actions and barrels are the same, off the same machines. It's finish level that is the only difference. Matte vs. blue and plastic vs. wood.

I bought a SPS stainless to shoot while waiting in line at the gunsmith. I had originally planned to use the action as a donor for the custom rifle. Since all I needed was an action, I figured the cheapest 700 was the smart purchase. The finish on the SPS action convinced me to go with something else. I have no idea how they got it that way, but it is really unattractive. I tried to get the smith to polish it out, but he said that after trying that once, he won't attempt another. This particular rifle (a 7mm08) shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yards with 150 gr Sierra Matchkings and 38 gr of RE-15 - not very good. I don't know if that accuracy applies to all of them.

I don't know how extensively you got into load development, but the accuracy you quote, may be a function of a non optimum load or the bullet seating depth. I have two Remy 700s, one manufactured in 1983 and and a Mountain rifle I purchased last year. They both shoot well under MOA after I develped a proper load.
