673 Guide Gun on hold
« on: October 26, 2006, 08:33:44 PM »
Last night I put a 6.5mm Rem Mag on hold at a gunshop.  I will stop by tomorrow, take a look at it, and decide if I want it.  Right now it looks like there will be a new Cabinet Member.  If I do, this will be the final new gun purchase I will ever make.  After this, I will be done.

Final new gun purchase? Ha Ha, I said the same thing 30 years ago. About 100 guns later, I finally quit. No more gun puchases. I just build them myself. ;D

IT's TRUE !

I don't have any more room in the Cabinet.  If I buy any more, I'd have to sell one to make room for it...

What sense does that make?

I WILL NOT go and buy more space.  This has gone far enough.

I tried that idea of have to sell one to buy one, then bought another safe and filled it up lol I need a bigger house!!Did you pick up the 673 Guide Gun yet?If I didn't already have a mohawk 600 in 308win,I would get me a 673.I got to go move some guns around, maybe just maybe I can get one more in there!

I didn't pick the 673 up yet, but I do have money on it.  I went to look at it today, and put my hands on it.  It is a nice looker.  It will come home with me by the end of November.  I don't like the idea of a 'J' lock on the bolt, but I guess I can live with it for now.

If you think you may want a 673, now is the time to pick up the 6.5mm Rem Mag, if that is a caliber you think you might want.  A .350 Mag is also one that is as desirable in that Model ...IMO.  The 2 inch longer barrel is much more suited to those Magnum Cartridges than the 660's.  Again, my opinion.

Your Mohawk is a nice keeper.  Another one hardly anybody wanted back when they were in the Shops new.  I have a friend who bought a 6.5 Mag back when they were offered before.  He loves his.  He also likes the price they command at auctions now.  I know he will foam at the mouth when he sees my 673, even though he doesn't care for the longer barrel for hunting in brushy Maine.

I won't be looking for more gun space.  This is it.  When I bought a place to put them, I didn't buy something small to begin with.   I am done now.  I can concentrate on buying ammo and components before the big price increase hits hard.

I don't care for the j lock either and none of my rifles have it.You're right about longer barrel on the magnums, shot one of the 660s in 350mag years ago,not fun.The 18 inch in 308 is bad enough.
The Mohawk was my first new deer rifle, and I have a soft spot for it,enen mohawked a nice eight point with it last year.Good luck with the 673 and you will like it.
