I'm not sure there's much diff between Fed & Rem 170s, 'partitions' excepted. I've never used a 'partition' but, but I've killed deer with Fed/Rem/Win 150s and 170s (never a Winchester 170, yet). All seem to work pretty good. Winchester PowerPoints, on the two deer I shot with them, seemed to make big entrance.
This year is mostly a Federal Powershok 150 year - they're the cheapest thing at the store, they group well in my rifle, and they work on deer. I figure they prob open up a little harder than 170s, going faster (and they kick a little less, too, though all 30-30s are mild). Yesterday I took my nicest deer ever, with the Federal 150. About 140 yards, swampy area, 9am. Deer ran about 30 yards. I'm sore from the 2 hour drag, but jazzed at getting the deer.
And I'm ever more convinced that plain old non-premium ammo works fine, whether Win or Rem or Fed and prob a few others I haven't tried!
