Lots of good advise in the above post.

I think a 7mm-08 combined with a 120 Grn Barns TSX or a 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip running @ 3000 FPS would be the ticket.  I switched from a 30-06 to a 7mm-08 and there was a significant decrease in felt recoil and that's with 145 & 154 Grn bullets in the 7mm-08.

from what I can gather from the previous posts this may not be an option but why not put a brake on your .308?  With that said, I seen 6.5 "s mentioned above but no 6mm or .243 . light accurate and no recoil....Good hunting...Bill
