Rem 700BDL
« on: April 13, 2003, 11:58:03 AM »
:D  Ran across a Rem 700BDL in .17 Caliber. Stock was in good shape but barrel was dirty so couldn't really tell what shape it was in. Was an early rifle as had an old Remington stock. Overall exc condition.
Also, as I recall wasn't there a recall on .17 caliber barrel years back?
Dealer was asking $540. Seems high to me but thought I'd get an opinion from the experts.

Without seeing the rifle about the only thing anyone can do is give you a blue book figure based on percentages:  and here is a range you can choose from 70% is valued at $220 and then 90% is at $280 so with those figures and the stated comment about the bore being dirty I would think the dealers price is a little HIGH. :D   JIM

Hmmmmmm....yes, I kinda remember the .17 caliber Remington cartridge.  It was a "hot" little varmint cartridge that pushed a 25 grain bullet at about 4,000 fps, as I recall.

It never got very popular 'cause even a little wind would move that tiny bullet around... and you had to buy a special cleaning rod 'cause a .22 caliber cleaning rod wouldn't fit it.  That's why the bore is so dirty... that gun dealer does NOT have a cleaning rod small enough to fit down that rifle's bore.

The Remington BDL is a fine rifle, but I sure would NOT pay that much for a used one, especially in that caliber.

You must be kidding me if that dealer actually believes that he would get that much money for that gun in the condition you described.  Was he drinking when he made that offer :gulp:
