I put a nice Burris 3X9 on a '84 (unfired!) vintage .270 Wby. Deluxe today. After I boresighted the scope, I couldn't resist the urge to go to the range. The wind was blowing a gale-but down-range, not cross-range, so I let fly. After getting on paper, I fired a three shot group with Wby. factory 130 Hornady's. The first group measured 7/8" @ 100 yards. After three shots, you could have grilled burgers on the barrel, but I was impressed by the group, just the same. After the barrel cooled considerably I fired another three rounds with a new scope adjustment: 1 and 1/8". I was still impressed. After a second barrel cool, I shot a group of Wby. factory 150 gr. Hornadys...7/16"!!! That's the smallest group I've fired with any rifle I own.
I find the Deluxe a bit gaudy(sp?) for my tastes. Can't imagine how all those shiny surfaces keep from spooking game. And, for that matter, I much prefer a straight comb to the Wby. hump. But, so far as I'm concerned, "pretty is as pretty does". This is the first Wby. I've owned and I've determined that it's a keeper! I'll have to schedule another stock job with a JRS from Boyds and maybe get a box of Nosler 150 Partns. to load.
Are there any other Wby. owners out there who have been equally impressed?
