Hello Expressmag
I have been in this type of Scenario several times in my life, and doing the right thing has always served me well in the past by rewarding me in many other way's in the future. I would like to share such a rewarding experience with you as well. I have a very close friend and hunting buddy that I left behind when I moved out of my Home Sate back in 1999.He has missed me being there to hunt with him ever since. I have found it hard to return as it is almost 800 miles back there, and his wife called this year to tell me he was really Bummed as he had not seen me nor hunted with anyone since I left there in 1999. I knew I had to get back there , and tend To my old Hunting pal. He is a contractor and is out of work in the cold Winter months. I made the long Journey back in late November to hunt Deer with him. He own's 58 acres of Gorgeous wooded land, but has shared with me that the Deer Population has dropped in the Past Five years due to feed restrictions as so many Farmers in his area have gone out of Business or moved from the state as well. He was Very surprised to see i had come back, and showed me the Best spot on his land to harvest a Deer. I was Lucky to have this 5 Point buck come into my Sights at 7:15 A M On opening morning. It was The fatest Buck I had ever Harvested, and had been eating well on the field Corn close to where I dropped him. My friend wanted to Quarter him up so I could take him home with me. I refused to take one steak from this deer, as I know winter is tough on him and his wife with him being out of work and him being the main Bread winner in the house their life styles suffered ubntil spring as her job did not bring in the money his did. He was very touched by me not wanting any of this deer, But I explained that he was still my best friend as I only had a few freinds like him, that I knew I could count on should I really need him, and it meant more to me knowing him & His wife would have plenty to eat until he went back to work in the spring. I made The trip back home, and Picked up my Mother in law on the way to have her with us during the Christmas Holidays. The evening before my wife took her mother back home, I received a Phone call from my hunting Buddy asking me to have my wife stop at his house, as he explained he had a surprise for me to give her to bring back home to me. She returned the next day, with the S&W Model 66 shown. I was confused to just why my Hunting buddy would be sending such a nice handgun back home with her for me ? I called him and he explained another buddy of ours got a DWI and was going to have to Give up all his guns because of it. I asked how much he wanted for it, and he replied Nothing as it was given to him, and he knew how much I liked S&W's so he wanted me to have it. I know with him out of work, he could have easily sold this model 66 and made him self a hefty profit from it. He explained that he did not get another deer after I left there, and if I had not left that Deer behind after the Hunt he would not have a full freezer of Meat to eat all winter. This showed me that by Giving something back for a good time I received it paid me in a big way as our friendship Meant a whole lot more to him than him flipping this handgun to make a fast Buck. here is a couple of pictures of the deer I harvested and the drop dead Gorgeous model 66 he gave to me just for being a friend. If it were me in this sittuation you are in, and I could get by without it, I would Just Give that model 66 back without any return of the Price I paid for it when Purchasing it. I firmly believe by doing this, It will Pay you back many times over in the future. Regards, Hammerdown
