The built in demand for left handed actions meant that Savage virtually dedicated the entire 1959 production to the southpaw. I bought a .243 when Kennedy was the President-elect and the gurus at Savage Shooters couldn't give me any info on my Serial no. I'll have to check it and I'll try to remember to post it later.
Here are a couple of points that may help you. Before '68 the pin holding the bolt head to the body is visible when the bolt is closed. The ejector is a projection in the magazine box, and there is a slot in the bolt head for it. The bolt nose recesses inside the barrel and the extractor wraps around the bolt nose. There is no detent in the safety to tell you when the bolt is unlocked while the safety is still engaged.
