After 40 years of owning and shooting almost nothing but antique lever guns and single shots, I broke down and bought my first new bolt action rifle. Looked at a lot of different guns, and decided on the Remington 700 VSF. I had already decided on a .22-250 as I owned that caliber before and had everything needed to get started loading and shooting.
Took the 700VSF out to the range tonight and was pleasantly surprised by very nice groups, even with stormy conditions. Hopefully they will tighten up even more once I figure out which trigger screws to adjust, and work up the ideal load for the 700.
The HS Precision stock that Rem. ships these with is very nice, and a good fit for me. I love the aluminum bedding block, which makes it extremely ridgid without adding a lot of weight. The fluted 26" heavy varmint barrel is fully floated, and that's different than my old Rem, which utilized a pressure point at the end of the forearm. I pulled my scope and bipod off my old Rem. and it bolted right up, so it's nice to know they didn't change that setup after over 35 years!
