Which 45???

I've narrowed my next one down to a Sig or a Kimber. Appreciate any feedback you guys might be able to provide.

You are comparing apples to oranges as far as triggers are concerned, but whatever floats your boat.......go for it. They are both high quality firearms. I'm partial to the Kimbers, but my buddy loves his Sigs.

You need to try them both before you decide. I've had a Colt NM Gold Cup, 70 series since they came out and still have it. I bought both a Kimber and Sig 220. I sold the Kimber and still have the Sig as well as the Colt. Will not get rid of either of them.

As others have said they're very different guns. I don't have a Kimber but do have a 1911, and a Sig 220. Both are as accurate as I can shoot, the 1911 is easier to shoot, especially when shooting fast, the Sig is easier to carry all day.

I agree with pinduck, try both before making a decision.

This is entirely a question of usage.  I own two Sigs and one Kimber.  Both are very fine guns.  The Sig is an extremely high quality, reliable weapon.  I use my Sigs as carry weapons.  For a target or 'fun gun' I'd go with the Kimber.  

In my mind, the distinction is usage, and not quality.  Kimbers are more expensive, but are great 1911's.

Have you considered the Springfield Armory 'Loaded' 1911's.  These are fabulous guns, and cost less than the Kimbers.  Mine is still at the smith getting an action and reliability job.  My smith prefers SA for quality over Kimber.

Dogshooter:  one is a 1911 the other is not.  It is your preference.  Do you prefer a european style double action auto or a 1911 style 45.  Whichever one feels best in your hands lends to whichever one you can shoot better.  If you can play with either that should help you decide.  I prefer the 1911 platform, but that's just me.  Mikey.

Hello Brian, it appears the smiths in general prefer the Springfield 1911s. I wonder if it's because they sell so many reliability and action jobs to their customers?
Truth be told the 1911 has more foibles than a woman during her change of life! The SIG series have none of the 1911s foibles!
That said, I love the 1911 platform and learned to tune them to solve the associated and inherent 1911 problems that are not found in the many "modern" designed autoloaders.
Paying hard earned cash to a smith to repair and tune a brand new gun isn't what a new shooter wants to hear.

This is the exact reason that I don't carry a 1911.  My two are strictly for fun/competition.  

My main reason for taking the SA to the smith was to get the trigger pull lowered to 4lbs and have all the internal workings 'slicked up'.  My Kimber Gold Match II needed no work from the factory, and has performed flawlessly.  It also cost more than the SA and smith bill combined.

I'm gonna make it easy on the guy, since you asked, I would say Kimber.  They make a pistol for every "different occassion".  I have 3 Kimbers, no Sigs, have fired every manufactures(to include wolf) ammo and even some reloads, and have never had a malfunction.  Have probably shot close to 4000 rounds out of the 3 combined.

But like everyone else has said, I would ultimately get whichever pistol you shoot best or feels best.  If you can shoot them, and maybe even a few other of the top sellers out there, that may really help you with your decision.  Check with ranges that allow you to rent or ask some buddies to shoot their stuff, that's always fun....

Couldn't he also buy a used Sig?   Then again most Sig owners don't part with them.   The only 1911 I have seen that equals the Sig in quality is a Kimber and considring the price difference you expect alot from the Kimber.  Yep, I have owned a SA and own 2 Colts now.  Both Colts needed work and well let's just say I will never own another SA.  My 2 Sigs have never needed anything except cleaning when I am done.

So it comes down to a simple choice of what you want.

You can watch the trade papers for used SIG police trades that come with nite sites and are used very little (LEOs rarely practice) other than holster wear.
The Brazilian made Springfield has had some serious quality control problems over the years with two piece barrels that separated and slides that literally broke in half or shattered with net reports and pics posted as recently as last year on The Firing Line.
The old 1911 crowd grumped and moaned about the Colt collet bushings cracking and the Gold Cup Elliason sights shearing roll pins but at least Colts barrels and slides remained in one piece (smilie)

sigs are over rated in my opinion.

Thanks for the input, guys. I ended up buying a Kimber Custom CDP. The Sigs are nice but I just didn't care for the feel. Went out today and put the first 100 rounds thru it and it performed flawlessly.
