What a deal !
« on: September 13, 2006, 12:35:38 PM »
I just found a used CZ 550 American Safari Mag. in a 458 Lott for $574.00. :o The guy only shot 2 shots out of it.That was enough for him he traded it in. I'm buing it just to say I have one,and to have fun at the range. :P I think I'll load some lighter bullets in the Win. and in the Lott and hunt deer with it. Do you guy's think it's a good deal?

It doesn't sound like a good deal to me because you don't have many plans for its use. Sorry, but if it's just sitting around doing nothing, it's a waste of money.

I only have one rifle at a time to play with.I shoot at the range about once a month. I know guys that only shoot one round at a deer a year, and these guys have 5 to 20 rifles thats a waste of money.I shoot what I have.

If you glass bed and cross bolt the stock B4 you shoot it you will be able to save the stock from cracking ,if it is not cracked already .take it apart and check it carefully B4 you shoot it .It is very common for them to crack or split ,mine did after only 3 shots . you should adjust the trigger and polish the rails and bolt a little to smooth out the action. so IF the stock is not cracked you did get a good deal ,if not the cost of a new stock will make it not so good .if you buy a new stock I have found the Mc Millan stock to be the best for a CZ.

It's never a waste of money if you enjoy what you have!  ;)

I went back in to the gun shop today. They have a Winchester in a 458 Win..When I picked it up it didn"t fill anywhere near as bulky as the CZ.If it's still there after hunting season I'm getting it.The big stuff isn't a fast mover up here.Is there anything that has to be done with the Win..It looks like it's built well. The 458 is new it's not used.

While I never had a Lott, I did have a Mauser in 458.  You mentioned light loads for deer.  In the 458 I loaded cast bullets and black powder for a wonderful, fun load that certainly commanded attention when it went off.  A belted 45-90 if you will.  Whichever you get, enjoy it.

Great deal!   I have a CZ .458 Lott and I paid more than that for mine over a year ago.

Very good deal, I don't consider any gun I buy a waste of money. If it makes you happy, who cares what any one else thinks.  ;)

if the recoil of the factory 510gr sp's are uncomfortable, try the 350 gr loads... i have a .458 in a #1h ruger tropical, with a millet 30mm reddot 1x on it....it is very comfortable to shoot, much like a 30-06 maybe..... a big push, instead of recoil..... kinda like shooting my garand rapid-fire....
