savage 243 deal?
« on: September 12, 2006, 05:20:30 AM »
hey guys i am looking at getting my girlfriend a 243 for her bday.  i have found a mossberg atr that i can order from wally world for $267 or the local wallyworld has savage 243 w/ accutrigger that comes with a simmons 8 pt. scope for $354.  my question is would i be better off getting her the mossberg and putting a bushnell banner on or should i go with the savage with the simmons?  i am a poor college student so i can't afford any more than what the savage will cost. thanks for the help

I have never owned a Mossberg, but I do have the exact Savage you are looking at.  It is now in 17 Remington and with a different scope and stock.  The Savage is an excellent rifle, the package gun is usable as it comes, even the scope isn't too bad.  Worst part of it is the cheap rings, but they should be OK for a while.  I would say if you are never going to change any parts, like the barrel or stock that you may be better off with the lower price of the Mossberg, the scope and rings on the Savage are not worth $50.00.  With the Savage you could buy it, site it in at the range and hunt deer that same evening.  You should also look at the Stevens, just the savage without the Accutrigger and with a lower price.  Larry

I'd get the Savage and never look back.  Excellent guns for the money.
