Wal-Mart Blew It......
« on: April 11, 2003, 12:01:10 PM »
Just got this notice that all Calif. hunters and shooters should see;

California Wal-Marts Suspend Gun Sales

Wal-Mart agreed last Friday to immediately suspend rifle and shotgun sales in its 118 California stores, following nearly 500 violations of state firearms laws in six stores.

Wal-Mart's action comes after the retail chain announced in July that it had implemented a rule requiring customers to undergo a background check before buying rifles and shotguns--no matter how long the check takes.

In California, store employees released guns to customers before background checks were completed, and failed to verify the identities of buyers through thumbprints and driver's licenses.

Other violations included failing to document the sale of a firearms safety device with a gun.

Wal-Mart spokesman Tom Williams says the company will begin new employee training in state firearms laws early next week.

A little late with the training in my opinion.  Going to hurt lots of sportsmen not being able to run down th their local Wal-Mart to get rifles and shotguns at reasonable prices.  Lawdog

The Associated Press  Friday, April 11, 2003
Albany-  Walmart suspended sales of toy guns in its New York stores on Thursday after the state sued, accusing the retailer of selling toys that lack required safety markings to distinguish them from real weapons.

The toy guns have orange caps on their barrels, as required by federal law, but lack nonremovable orange stripes down the barrel's length as New York law requires, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's lawsuit contends.

Safety experts say the brightly colored markings help police officers distinguish toy guns from real weapons, and that the permenant stripes are important because the plastic barrel caps can fall off or be removed.

"In our continued efforts to be a responsible retailer, we have made the decision to suspend sales of all toy cap guns in New York."  Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart said in a statement Thursday.  "This decision is based on the belief by the attorney-general that some of the toy cap guns we are selling do not comply with the law."

Wal-Mart said it relies on the suppliers of their toys to deliver products that comply with local laws.

The Wal Mart in a town 30 miles from us (Los Banos Ca. )sold fire arms to two felons. WalMart did'nt have their act together on the background checks and other regulations. They also let some guns go before the 10 day waiting period (in Ca.) was up. They still sell ammo but the gun case is empty. There were many other infractions these were among the most serious. In cases like that I often wonder if the employes that were working in the sporting goods dept. had their own agenda (anti gun ) before going to work for a major supplier of shooting supplies, so it may have cost them a minimum wage job but in their eyes and in the eyes and hearts of the anti gun activist they are heros, well If it could only be proven that was a setup from the begining it would look good on the 6:00 NEWS. :D   JIM

I would just like to say that I have never purchased a gun from Wal-Mart and probably never will. You might save a few dollars compared to the price from your local gun shop, But what about service after the sale? I seriously doubt that Wal-Mart will repair your broken gun, or even return it to the manufacturer for you. You pay your money you save a few bucks and from there on you are on your own. Just my two cents worth.
