Springtime diversion
« on: April 11, 2003, 10:33:47 AM »
Any of you fellas like to shoot snakes? The cottonmouth are pretty thick back in the swamp where I limbline, and I like to shoot them with a 22 pistol for grins.

They are coming out of the den areas now, and the vegetation isn't too thick yet, so they are fairly easy to spot sunning along the banks. I'm up to 35 for sure kills so far, and several not sures.

The limblining is a little slow, and the snake shooting adds to the experience. I get a copperhead now and then as well, but I leave the non-poisonous snakes alone.

22 longrifle out of an old ruger mark one with a bull barrel. I buy em in bulk, the hollow points.

I'm a country boy, got a shootin range right behind my house. Pistols, rifles, shotgun clays, so I've learned to shoot over the years.

I do miss now and then with the little pistol, but I sometimes make a head disappear also.

Its a beautiful thing what a shotgun will do to a snake. water or land. Shot one coiled up ready to strike one time. Now you see him now you don't.
