12ga Slug For A Grizzly
« on: September 07, 2006, 04:30:13 AM »
 Opinions please?
Which 12ga slug would you choose for protection against a Grizzly?
The two I consider are the Remington core lokt 50 cal high velocity or the Brenneke 1-3/8 oz slug. Any others?

Well, since you said protection, the Dixie. The Dixie is heat treated and should penetrate a lot better.

 Brenneke loses.
I think I would want an auto loader for these.
Do you know what the hardness is for these slugs?
I checked the Win. foser slug and the Brenneke on a rockwell at work.
We make hardened steel. So, it read on the minus side. Foster slug 46 hardness. Brenneke 26 hardness. Curious what the dixie is.

Says they are 20 bhn (Brinell Hardness Number), and 740 grains on the Terminator.

The Predator is 563 grains.

The Tri-Ball is another option with three .570 caliber balls.

For bear the Dixie first then the Brenneke. The Brenneke I think is the best for deer....<><.... :)
