That's the one w/fluted barrel and adjustable brake, right? I don't have experience with the short action, or the 330WSM. However, my brother owns a 116FSAK in .338 win mag, and I've shot it a bit, once in a side by side comparison to my Ruger MkII 7mm Remington Magnum. The Savage in .338 was a softer shooter, more accurate, with a better trigger (this gun is pre-accutrigger). Overall, the Savage was a joy to shoot. The Ruger looked better, and that's about it. If they start making them in left hand versions, I'll get one of the FSAK's, in the short action. I really liked it. I had originally traded in an older 110 on my Ruger, and have been having some regrets. The 116 has reinforced my opinion that while the Ruger is a good product, for the person who wants an accurate working rifle, Savage is the ticket.
One thing about the brake is the muzzle blast is really something if you're not used to it. It does make long shooting sessions more pleasant, however (I habitually wear both earplugs AND muffs, so the noise wasn't really a problem). Also, I would get the 16 over the 116, as there will be more room to adjust for eye relief on a scope. I think a model 16 in 300WSM or that new 325WSM would be just about ideal for elk, moose, bear, etc.
