Custom 7mag under $1000 ??????
« on: September 01, 2006, 01:00:05 PM »
Wanting a 24-26" barrel 7 mag (Rem or Weath) that weighs less than 7lbs.
I know I can buy a Rem TI or Weatherby Ultra Light for a little over a thousand can I have one put together for less?
Also looking at the Colt Light Rifle but their abrupt failure worries me.

go with a stevens 200. all they are is a savage 10/110 with a different stock (pre acutrigger).  but the triggers can be worked and and the starting price of the rifle is  259 at sportsmans warehouse. the 7mm comes in a 24 inch barrel even and it only weighs 6.5

The short answer is: no, a custom rifle will probably cost more than $1000.
If you want a good shooting light rifle look around at the light and featherweight rifles from the well known companies that have a recent history of good products. After hunting season you will likely be able to pick up a "nearly new" rifle in that caliber for next to nothing. There will be more lightweights in the second hand stores than you can imagine.
