Looks really great. With it being black, it is hard to see a lot of detail. Tell us what the two levers are for. Since I am a lot more comfortable working steel than wood, I am going to have to find a blueprint for one and build it someday. Thanks for photo's.

Hey Tropico,

It was you & Rickk made me jealous when you guys pick up those BROOKS Dictators... But thanks Dom Carpenter the shoe is on the other foot HA!! Large grin on my mug!!    One lever is to elevate the barrel the I believe was used to move it to right or left when aim at a target..But can't say thats exactlly right..maybe some here on the has more info.

The axles are on an eccentric.  The bars are used to twist the eccentric to lift the mortar onto the wheels, then the bars are put into holes in the wheels to turn the wheels to move the mortar as desired.

Thanks George, if those guns weighed 18,000 lbs they needed all the leverage they could get!

Except for the color it looks like mine.

Mine is brown

Is there a chance that we ALL have one of these?

I built mine maybe 25 years ago from a CVA kit.

my barrel is 7 inches. It is .45 cal (been a while since I actually stuck a ball in it... i thought it was .50).

It says "Black Powder Only" in front of vent hole, and "Spain" on the underside of the barrel under the vent hole.

I just checked around a bit... apparetnly CVA no longer makes BP kits... just finsihed "in-line" ignition BP rifles.

There is a company called "Traditions" http://www.traditionsfirearms.com/eshop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=CN8052 that looks like it took over CVA's kits and more traditional BP gun line. They don't make the .45 cal naval cannons any more, but they have a .50 and a .69 now.

The Santísima Trinidad  ., The Spanish 4 row Man of War., I cant tell if there are guns on the poop deck and forecastle. The Flags are saying Spain to me. A  first-rate ship of the line of 120 guns .,then later upgraded to 144 . ???
