So who's going coyote hunting?
« on: August 27, 2006, 06:20:14 AM »
This will be my first year hunting coyote (and fox). Two of my good friends hunt them all the time and have been asking me to go the last few years. This year I'm going!

They mostly hunted them at night with a shotgun. This year they're getting a different call and think we'll be able to hunt them during the day as well. I prefer to hunt during the day (dawn and dusk) so I can use a rifle. I'll be using either my Remington model 700 BDL 223 Rem. or my Rock River Arms AR-15 depending on the area we hunt.

I can't wait...............anyone else going to hunt them and whatcha gonna use to get 'em? :)

It was sitting at my ffl's house for a week, but I have it now.  As soon as Ernesto goes away I'm going shooting.

  NY Hunter..

I have been threatening to do it for a number of years now...maybe this year I will do it..
There are some fellows in my neighborhood that hunt yotes with dogs and get them in multiples of 10 each year..usually near a hundred yearly so I hear.
They use 12 ga shotguns and insist that any guests use their handloads (?)..Don't know why but I'm sure they have their reasons...after all, it's THEIR dogs that are chasing those yotes..

I may go with them, but I want to end up calling calling coyotes in...because I am a rifleman at heart. In fact, when rifle season was passed here, I gave my last shotgun to my grandson..LOL

My rifles for yotes ? ..Savage 11G in .223, NEF Handi-rifle in .223 , Anschutz .22 mag and an NEF in .22mag/.17 HMR..

ironglow, seems there is some very serious "TWO LEGGED" coyote hunting going on right now in your neck of the woods!

I too would much rather use a rifle then a shotgun on anything except the obvious shotgun type of game. Seems to me you have the coyote hunting rifle area covered pretty good. Good luck and be safe. Hopefully the "TWO LEGGED" coyote hunting ends real soon!

 Yes..
Old "Bucky" led the law on a wild chase . The thing I find hard to clearly understand is just why some folks were cheering Bucky on...even after his first cop shooting !
In the end, the macho guy that said he wouild never give up and would rather die by "Cop suicide"..gave up meekly..

During the flight of the " Bucky Bee"...T-shirts appeared that were imprinted, " Run Bucky Run !"..
Some of the local news media tried to gin up excitement by trying to portray him as some kind of "folk hero"...as was done with the James Bros over a century ago..
He did have lots of help in eluding police...apparently many of his low-life friends aided him..BEFORE the last pair of troopers were shot.
I believe the authorities are going after anyone that did aid him in flight..

If it is proven that he did kill the trooper..his facilitators should be jailed and their estates (if they have any) should be sued away from them..because if they had done their job and turned him in...or at least not help his fugitive run...that trooper, who has a wife and very small son, would be alive today.

   Thanks, NY HUnter;

Bucky almost caused hunting season to be closed in Chautauqua co.
He was running around about 30 miles from my house, on and off the reservation.
I live in Cattaraugus co. and there was a chance that he could have messed us up also..
Itis not just the danger of sharing the woods with an idiot like that but the police were getting calls of someone  seeing a " man in the woods with a gun"...which were of course, hunters..

  Bucky update:

Just today, lawmen picked up a fellow in the next towndown the line from me (4 miles south)..Seems this bird harbored Bucky for 3 days.

About 2 am on the morning of Aug 26 my next door neighbor heard some noise in his driveway, looking out his upstairs window he saw someone trying the doors on his wife's car. He shouted at the person, who looked up..then casually walked away in the dark.

Those kind of things are VERY rare around here...probably a good thing my neighbor did not go down for a confrontation...considering today's news..

getting my 243 ready. Used a 22-250 last year it was effective but since my nephew claimed it I am going to load some varmint stuff for m 243. Looking forward to it. I figure every one that gets taken out more deer for me not them.

NEF 22-250 with 50 grain V-Max's.

I usually go after them after deer season. It's hard and challenging hunting.

This year I'm going early for the young juvies. Hopefully they'll come to the call easier ;)

My friend that owns property in Allegany County wants to try his hand at yote hunting this year as well...We are both new to it so this should be an experience...I'd like to use my H&R Ultra Varmint 223 but we will see...
