Lone wolf, There is alot of game lands up in the Newark Valley Region and north. They hold a fair amount of deer. Many are not huge but they are surrounded by farm lands. One of the larger ones is off of Legg Hill Rd just outside of Newark Valley in the town of Candor. You would actually go to Newark Valley traveling North on 38. Make a right at the only red light there and follow the road right after the bridge. This is Whig St. which eventually turns into Howard Hill Rd. Follow Howard Hill to the end and make a right. This is West Creek Rd follow this north until you make a large "S" curve over the creek and than follow it approximately 1/2 mile. Legg Hill RD is a left turn follow this up and bear right at top Large state land is there on left.

There are also a lot of other sections of state land around. There is one large one a couple of miles north of Richford NY on Rt 38 on the right plus some West of Ridhford on Rt 79.

Hope this helps. Good Luck> John

Funny, you travel all the way here to hunt and I many times travel all the way to Delaware Cnty to hunt. Guess the grass is alwasy greener or maybe we just like a change sometimes. ;D

I know the feeling about not spotting deer. 7R is OK but not great. In my travels it seems the areas around Cayuga and Seneca lake seem to hold the most deer. Lot of posted land though. Good luck, John
