I found that I needed to compress the slug and load to roll crimp it.  I would do this just prior to rolling it.  What have you results been with shooting these?  So far, Im not too impressed (accuracy wise), but I havent been hunting with them yet.

Kb; Have yet to get one loaded.  However, I did find Fiocchi slugs at a gun shop today,($2.99 per) bought 3 boxes because they have the exact same slug and buffer.  Seems like a light load, fair group a 50 yrds on the first three but when I adjusted scope it went crazy so I confirm accuracy.  One round in the bull and one 8" left of center, next round 8" left of center, next round edge of black...No consistencey... ??? ??? ??? ???
I don't have a roll crimper and have no intentions of buying one until I get a new scope...Tired of the low end stuff, think I will jump up to the Leopold 2x7x32 shotgun scope.  At $2.25 per shot, a bad scope is way past frustrating.

Try putting a little grease inside the rim of the crimp.
I do this with the Brenneke slug. Works great!
Let me know how it works. This will only work in a pump or single. Not auto. Gas ports will get plugged.

Just swallowed my prided and ponyed up for a $185 Leupold VX-I 2-7X33 scope myself after a Tasco went nuts on me.  My Tasco lasted for probably 75 slugs until it just wouldn't group.  Put the new scope on and I'm back in gear.  Too bad I proabably wasted 4 boxes(about $40) to find out the old scope was shot.

What's worse about sabots.  The price, or the thumping to the shoulder. :)  From now on, I'm going to check my slug setup mid-summer so that I will have time to get the scope repaired shoulld things go bad again.  I'm hoping the Leupold does the trick and gets me to the point that I don't need to shoot more than a box or two of the expensive sabots from now on.

I've looked into reloading slugs to keep the cost down.  I just can't see a solution that looks like it would be all that cost effective for the trouble it would take.  Also, I don't really think it's fun to take the pounding to sight in gun let alone all the shots to work up a load with reloads.  I hate being tied to factory stuff since I cast bullets and load a lot but I think it's the only choice here for me.

in my 870 remington 12ga. slug barrel, the DG Slug roll crimped is the most accurate slug i have shot.  This includes the sabots.  It is very effective on deer.  I have killed several, and they have not taken an additional step.  A roll crimper is only $30 from ballistic products.  I can hit a small paper plate at 100 yards all day long.  I use BP new 3" shells and HS-7 for powder.  Use a loading manual for 1-1/8 oz loads with this powder.  This is the only slug I use now.  My daughters have had the same type of results with the 20 ga version.

Bob, any problem with leading? How fast they going for you?

Just from the looks of the slug, it doesn't look like the driving bands are wide enough to get a good bite of the rifling, but they seem to be doing good for you. I might have to pick up a bag next time I order to try out.

I do not have a chrono, but the loading specs say 1545 fps. 1-1/8 oz. slug.  I have put allot of them through my barrel, and had no leading problems.  Every deer my daughters, and I have killed with them have passed all the way through the deer, and made a very nice wound channel on entry and exit.  Nothing excessive, but a slightly mushroomed size hole on exit.
If you try them, you will not use anything else.
