Hmmm lost of folks have been impressed with the target they supply only to be dissappointed as nothing they shoot gets anywhere near as close. The Vanguards are test fired from a test bed and not in the stock. I hope that you are lucky and find a load(s) which perform well in yours however you may very well have to play with that stock to get acceptable accuracy  ::).

I've recently bought a Weatherby Vanguard 'Varmint Special' in .223 , marketed here and in Aus as the 'Red Mist' Varmint, as it has a red 'spider web' job on it's dull-black fibreglass stock, and came packaged with a 4-12 Bushnell.

Great little 'walkin' Varminter !    22" bbl    1:12 twist   #3 profile .740 at muzzle   Guaranteed 1.5" or better 3 shot with Factory ammo (Premium) from a cold barrell. (Trigger is a bit of a mission at 3.25 lbs minimum)

It came with a 3 shot test target, two touching and one high, .85" centre to centre.

The Test sheet says it's a 55gr S.P., so no giveaway there, and tested by Mr Yamamoto, so probably done in the Howa factory in the good'ol  'Land of the Rising Sun', and maybe in a barrelled action vice.

I put some Remington 55gr S.P. factory ammo through and the results were acceptable.

My own 55gr HPBT load does a .5"/.6"  FIVE shot group, consistently, even with that trigger.

I will replace the trigger one day for a Timney, when I'm done through mastering my trigger control, so I expect to do even better.

It sits great in the stock.  No special bedding or pillars are evident.

I'm very pleased with my purchase.

cheers,
Sean in 'Godzone'

Glad to hear that your new toy is not only accurate but suits your purpose  ;D Hmmm yours is not the first trigger complaint I have heard  ::) The Vanguards I shot were both in .223 Rem whilst one was accurate the other was only so-so. The accurate one had a strange problem, it pierced primers and eventually after a box or so of ammo required the bolt to be strip to remove the little discs it punched out of the primers  :o The importers here in the UK were not very helpful  >:( I do not know if the rifle is shot any more as Roger it's owner suddenly died of a heart attack and that particular rifle was left to his No2 son who I have not seen since the funeral.

I look forward to some pictures of your conquests with you new Vanguard  ;D
