If the scope tracks properly and works like it should, it's a good deal. The rifles are about that price, new in the box, at Wal-Mart. (Where I got mine. Best deal in town on Howas!)

It started out off the paper at the range but came in like a dream.Last three you could cover with a quarter at 1 1/2" dead over the bull.

I've got a .308 sitting here waiting to be tested as soon as my stock gets here.  Good to hear about your good results.

I love Howa bolt actions but the synthetic stock, in my experience, is a piece of crap.  Apart from that, they're great.

I love the angle, length and shape of the bolt handle and bolt knob and the large ejection port. Howas are great rifles.

I'm waiting now for a carbon fiber stock, two weeks to go and then I can head to the range.  Hopefully this one will get a deer this year.  Here is the stock on my Win. that will be rather similar.

I think you'll like it, they have a good reputation.    I have a fairly new Howa 1500 (22-250) with varmint SS barrel, thumbhole laminated stock.  I pillarbedded the reciever successfully (thanks to High Score Bedding's excellent kit), freefloated the barrel where there was a bit of contact, and my best group the other day was .189 (3/16").    Of course that may have been luck, since a few other groups with the same load were just around 3/4".  ;D

I also did end up installing an aftermarket trigger.  I couldn't get the "gritty" creep adjusted out of mine, but other posters with Howas say there's are great so I guess that's luck of the draw.

JD11,
How about a recipe on that load for the 22-250. I have a Weatherby SUBMOA in 22-250 (Same action as Howa 1500) that I have been fighting for 6 months and can't get a group under 1.5" at 80 yards. I have changed scopes, put in a timney trigger, and changed to a Boyd Thumbhole stock with the barrel fully free floated. I still can't get this rifle to group. I have tried a variety of factory ammo, including the Federal 55 gr Classic load that the factory test target came with, as well as a variety of handloads, and still no luck. I have had other shooters, GOOD rifle shooters try, with the same or worse groups as me, to eliminate shooter error. I have a Vanguard 300 Win Mag, and a 270 that produce 1 hole groups at 100 yards, (factory stocks, triggers, ect.), but I can't get this rifle to shoot. Any suggestions?
Thanks
