.375 RUM
« on: July 19, 2006, 11:35:39 AM »
What kind of velocitys are you guys getting with this caliber, ate you duplicating the factory 2760FPS or can you get much higher. I only ask because i am reading an article that states handloaders can get 2950 FPS at 5800 foot pounds with the 375 RUM and i was wondering if this article was correct

I think those velocities are for 270 grain bullets, not 300 grainers. Hodgdon has the data.

I checked again the 270 at 2950 is around 5200 foot pouinds they are talking about the 300 grain bullets at 5800 foot pounds. But i still think thus is  a misprint , as so far the highest velocity i have found in factory ammo is from Conley and they load all there 300 grain bullets at 2800 fps.I was going to get the 375 H&H but as a handloader i think the RUM would be a better choice for me.

Barnes has some great bullets for the 375 Ultra Mag in the TSX line.  The 270 grain TSX is .503 BC.

I ordered a box of 260 Grain Nosler AccuBond custom ammo at 2970FPS but I would not expect muzzle energy to be much above 5,000.  BC is .473.
