300 win mag problem

I was doing a lot of reading on this round cause i'm 99% sure on getting this round for my next rifle but i read somewhere about magazine fed 300 win mags that you have to seat the bullet a little deeper than normal cause of the magazine size and that the crimp wouldnt hold the bullet good unless it was the new nosler bullets designed for this and with the recoil the bullets in the magazine would actually sink further into the case. Anyone got anymore info on this?

Well, to tell the truth I shoot a Springfield XD so it doesnt really matter.

I don't have any info thats put out by factories. I've been shooting the 300 Win Mag a long time. I load my rounds to the lenght thats set by the reload info and have never had any problem. I don't crimp my rounds never have and never will.
All my rounds fit into my rifle without any problem. The recoil does NOT sink my rounds deeper into my shells.
The 300 Win Mag is a great rifle.

I also have a 300 Win Mag and like jro45, I have never had a problem. I don't crimp my rounds and load up to the reloading manuals spec's.

TreyAzagthoth, I found you can read 100 different books or mags and get 100 different opinions, nothing takes the place of hands on experience, jro45 and I have plenty of that.  ;D

Good question.  With todays bullets seating is somewhat not always by the book.  The OAL in most reloading books for the 300mag is 3.340.  The magazine for my 300mag will let me seat the bullet out further than 3.340  so if using like and interbond bullet that are long you can seat  them out alittle further.  Two things determine seating depth other than what is standard OAL it's magazine lenght and bullet ogive.   Not all bullets are the same a flat base bullet will have the ogive closer to the tip than a boattail bullet.  One of the things that has always followed the 300mag is the short neck on the case .220 most reloaders like the neck to be as long as the bullet dia .308 so was alot of talk when the 300mag came out about crimping bullets myself I've never crimped bullets for the 300mag.  I've always used a flat tip bullet for hunting as unloading and loading can cause alittle damage to the tip last year on a late elk hunt temp got to 15 below.  Well good luck
