M70 SS Classic 338 win mag synthetic
« on: July 17, 2006, 05:13:02 PM »
someone won this rifle at a RMEF banquet here in Wyoming a few years back,  brought it in to sell on consignement when M70s went out of print.. I bought it for $630.. never fired, LNIB.  just the ticket for my Alaska Dall/Grizz hunt now approaching in 48 days.    This lightweight kicks like the proverbial Kentucky Mule.. so,  Lead Sled time.. for load development.  tried several load combos,  but seems to like Nosler Partitions 210s ahead of 72 gr RL 19 the best to far,  last two groups at .730 inch, and .520 inch for three shot groups.  (100yds)  MV at 2925fps.  mounted a Pachmeyer Decelorator pad and it is now much more shootable.   Now hikeing a couple of miles each evening with pack-frame, and rifle, getting used to gear, new boots  and such.   My 35 year old son and I are going to Alaska for the first time..  l'm 59.. wish us luck.. Les
