.25ACP vs. 209

Looking to switch my huntsman over to the 25 acp breechplug, just wondering what the benifits are of the .25 acp brass and small rifle primer over the 209 shotgun primer? Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Other than the convenience of handling the brass the other advantages are the ability to use a wide range of primers which allows you to select a primer with exactly the right of power to ignite the charge without too much causing the powder or pellets to move up the barrel before complete ignition. This latter theory is what some claim the 777 powder crud ring is caused by. Many claim an improvement in accuracy as well although I have not shot mine enough at this time to comment on that.

I have had the .25acp breech plug for about a year now and I really like it.

The benefits would be you can load up the brass before going out to the range. I load up about 100 or 200 at a time and you don't have to mess with loading primer carriers while shooting. The biggest benefit would have to be they are almost totally blow-back free, I just get a light soot ring around the back of the brass at the breech block. With the primer carriers, it's all over the place. You can reuse the brass if you would like, just punch out the primers, clean and reprime. I think a brass tumbler would be the way to go, because I haven't found an easy method as of yet. I have washed them, but they turn tarnished and need to be tumbled or something else. Guess I should go ask at the BPCR forum and find out how these guys clean their brass.

I have been loading them and discarding them for the most part, they are still way cheaper than Knights "Full Plastic Jackets" and 209 primers.

I mostly shoot 777 loose powder in FFG & FFFG grades and have not shot pellets with this conversion as of yet. I have also shot some Black Mag'3 powder with no problems. If you are a pellet shooter, I am not sure how it will do.

Just make sure if you order it you order the right one, they come in 5/8" and 7/8" sizes.

As far as cleaning the brass. First the brass needs to be put in a bath of hot soapy water with either real black or even Black Mag'3. Black Mag'3 is not very corrosive to steel but will attack brass fairly quickly. Once the powder residue is neutralized then you can use some brass cleaning liquid and soak it for a little (It works better if you have the primers punched out at this time). Once the brass is again brass color you can drop it in the vibrator or tumbler and polish. I have about 1000 once fired 25ACP brass so I have not spent much time cleaning. If I was short on brass the above is the way I would do it. I do reaload so I have all the equipment.
