Old head on young shoulders!
« on: July 04, 2006, 09:33:07 PM »
I am quiet new to shooting and am learning that I have lots and lots to learn. Unfortunatly my grand father died recently he was a great mind of information regarding shooting as he was an armour in the Irish army right back to 1912. He always told me that you cant put an old head on young shoulders! but I was thinking that there has to be lots of good advice that can be gained from experienced and proficient shooters.

My question is:
If you could go back to when you started shooting what advice would you give to yourself?

Maybe helping others past pitfalls they otherwise would fall into.

Good question......I've traded a few guns that I've regreted trading....and I should have bought a gun safe beforethe burglary.....

I can't think of anything I'd do differently as far a shooting....I started shooting a BB gun at age 7.....I shot it most everyday....I still have an air rifle and shoot it most every day.....in between the time I spend at the range......If you want to be a good shot then you have to shoot often.....

My advice...

Control your breathing, and relax.  Try and let the rifle become an extension of yourself.  Accuracy in your shooting is easy, if you let it be that way.

You got that right about the hearing protection!!!  I sure wish I could turn the clock back on that. :(

Got some good advice about checking my zero before hunting or when using any new type of ammo, their was a difference of over 1inch on two different batches of the same winchester .270 ammo.

What was that you said?  Can't hear you, I didn't wear enough hearing protection growing up and shooting.   Guys and girls, please, wear hearing protection!!!

My 2 cents.
