Sighted in the -06 for the first time since last spring, it was shooting at about 4" right at 75 yards, so a lot off.  This is the gun I've been going out for black bears lately, and am glad I haven't taken any shots!  Took it back in around 150 yards, now we're ready.  Always a good thing to check!!

No doubt  :)  I always shoot my rifle/s before season.  Actually I shoot them all year around, but especially before hunting season rolls around.  A guy never knows what could change in the course of a year between seasons.  Glad you ck'd it out before you really needed it.

Sometimes once a year isnt enough, depending on what happens to it during the season.  Like bumping it or having it tip over.

After a few years of hunting, some rifles dont need constant checking, they settle in on their own.  I have one rifle here that hasnt needed an adjustment for over 15 yrs.  But it has alot of shoulder time, and it hasnt been bumped or hasnt hit the ground for any reason.

I also have a friend that bought a new rifle 12 yrs ago, and he's still on his first box of shells.  He goes deer hunting every year, sometimes he checks it every other year.

Some people arent hard on their guns.

Its always a good idea to check before going hunting, but if the POI is moving when the gun is in the safe, its probably time to figure out why.

I'm going to guess a wooden stock that is not free-floated?

Or maybe you are shooting different ammo than what it was sighted in with originally?

Never hurts to see where it`s poking holes (paper targets) at the range
before the season starts.....................helps eliminate the dreaded,
    " I wonder" factor.

Mine is the bump factor...  I've hit more trees with that rifle...  I have been doing some deep canyon bear hunting which involves trails which are not really trails....
