I have never made one, but looking at the commercial versions, they are nothing but a funnel on a glass or plastic jar...seems one could tape a funnel to the mouth of a plastic or glass jar..you might want to open the funnel up alittle by cutting some of the spout off..depends on the size of minnow you hope to catch. I used to use saltines for bait.  If you want to catch crawfish, use a dead fish or the head of fish.  Remember the funnel is inside the jar with the large opening toward the outside.

after thinking about it..you wouldn't have to tape the funnel on if you had the right size jar with the correct size funnel and used a ring from a Mason canning jar..just leave the lid off and use the ring to secure the funnel inside the jar.

Get a 3 Lt empty coke bottle. Pour a little cement mixed with sand in bottom for weight. Gather smaller size coke bottles (3-4). Cut the tops of the smaller bottles off forming little funnels. Cut holes in sides of 3Lt bottle just big enough for the smaller bottle funnels to screw in. Funnels can be epoxied into place. Take 3Lt bottle lid and drill small hole for attaching length of line about 5-10 ft. On end of line attach anything small that floats. Place dog food, fish food, catfish chow, or whatever into trap. Screw lid back on and catch minnows. They will go in the funnels but will not escape.
