What is your suggestion
« on: June 17, 2006, 05:12:00 PM »
I know this is a slug gun, but you guys know alot about H&R

I just got back from H&R a factory fitted  20ga riffled slug barrel. I do not like the sights at all and no way to put a scope on it. The front ramp look to be sweeted on or something there is no screw hole like on my 357 bbl.  and I am afraid to take the back pin out to see if a screw is in the back sight, untill I find something better. The rear sight is tward the front not where the scope mount should be.

Do you think a layman sight (like on a BC) would work  on this bbl since the rear sight is so much farther up and the front ramp can not be changed?

What would you do if it was yours?

Thank you

I'd drill and tap the barrel and installed a Williams WGRS peeep sight on it in the same location as this .45-70.

I had my gunsmith drill and tap my standard 20 gauge barrel and installed a standard scope rail from H&R. Added a 1.5-4.5x32 Bushnell Banner scope. One BIG hole at 50 yards with Rem Sluggers. Most smiths will d&t the 20's but not the 12's since the 20's have more metal to work with at the chamber but the 12's are much thinner there.
Sounds like you got one of the Tracker 2 barrels, just talk to a gunsmith and you shouldn't have any problems getting done what you want......either open sights or a scope rail.

You might mount a receiver sight to the action and have an appropriate front sight silver soldered on.

Give em a call tomorrow and ask if they have any left, they were $35 shipped when they were selling them last year. Toll free number is in the FAQ and Help.
